I remembe vaguely Pac-Man included like this little plastic joystick or something to attach to the NGPC for that arcade "feel" as it was advertisted...does anyone know what this thing looked like?

Pacman and Crush Roller both came with 2 or 3 plastic red cross rings - these were used to clip over the control stick, to restrict the motion to only up down left right and not diagonals. - I've never used mine - done see the point really - never mind hope that helps :)

I think there were 2 cross rings for pacman and crush roller. I think jedipie is correct.

Yeah! thats it! :) I was wondering what it was, so it pretty much it's a d-pad adapter? Seems interesting, I wonder how you would get one, I own pac-man, but mine didnt come with a box or manual. Thanks for your help jedipie!

Definitely 2 cross rings, basically they were stronger versions of tiny rubber bands with little grooves to basically turn the NGPC joystick into a 4-way. I use it all the time for Pac-Man to give it a more authentic feel, but I know others that prefer not to use it.

But then again, I have a Ms. Pac-Man cab at home so I'm a little biased. :D

What? Of the cross rings? wink

Um, yeah. I use them two - I find the control for Pacman far too sloppy without them, it was a really simple little idea that makes a big difference to the gameplay IMHO YMMV etc...

It's not really a d-pad adaptor, what it does is stops the joystick from moving in the diagonals - so you can't accidentally hit Up-Left or whatever and therefore confuse the game as to which direction you're moving in. If you're going to do *well* at a game like Pacman, it's almost essential...

EDIT: @Nesagwa - where does your sig picture come from? It looks like it's an advertising pic for the wireless link - is that correct?

Cheers
Chris

That thing must come in handy for the Felicia mini game in MotM... Although I never tried it myself, since I didn't have that thing at the time...

My Pac Man came with three of the red rings.

Sorry I didn't take a pic of it on the NGPC as I let some kids borrow both of mine. They liked playing Puzzle Bobble on the MVS and I thought they enjoy would it on the Pocket.
