Hi everybody,

I would like to present you a new website about Neo-Geo: www.neogeodb.com

The idea is very simple.
Just think about cdDb, imDb or other Db websites and add a buy/sell feature. That's it!

We try to gather informations about all existing Neo-Geo games, hardware & accessories:

- insert picture
- UPC/EAN
- Release date
- Reference
- etc.

It's also a place to link all other resources like documents (move list, cheat codes, technical informations),
reviews (mags or website), video (superplays, long plays, intro, endings).

As a registred user, you can

* Build your collection
* Set up your wishlist
* Sell and buy articles in the market
* Leave comments on any pages

Search engine allows you to browse the museum and find what you want
among various SNK hardware: AES, MVS, NGP, NGPC, H64, NGCD, NGX(?)

The website is still BETA since July and we need to fix some issues and add a lot of game inserts (mostly US Homecarts).
We surely have some mistakes in the database like forgotten games, or US Versions that doesn't exist, therfore
it would be great if you could help us build the best NeoGeoDB of the world by warning us if you find something incorrect.

So, tell us what do you think about this project, how dumb/great you think it is.

And if you want to contribute, by scanning the front insert of your US Home carts, please send it to

takou@neogeodb.com or anzymus@neogeodb.com

There are only 2 admins for now, myself and anzymus.
I make the DB improvment by correcting mistakes and adding new game inserts
anzymus does the programming, bug fixing, and layout design.
All of it on our free time, like most of the neogeo projects.

Now, some examples with pics of what you can find on our small website

Homepage of the project.
3 radom inserts, a random overview of the marketplace with current games for sale
and a "what's new" area that allows you to check what was recently done.
You can search for a game in the upper-right corner.

NGDB_1.jpg

An example of a game page.
Insert, Release date, Region, Platform, NGH, Ref and publisher.
Reviews & Ressources if available
Links to related games (only the ones that already have a "cover pic")

NGDB_Game_1.jpg

Clicking on thumbnail shows the cover (or other pictures, if available)

3 Ways to browse into SNK universe...

Museum overview, in "Table" mode

Museum overview, in "Grid" mode

Some basic stats
You can see here where we need some more covers,
which user has the biggest collection, or biggest wishlist
etc.

NGDB_Stats.jpg

In the TOP 100, you can use neogeodb data to find out
which neogeo Title is the most "owned", wich one is second, etc..
Sales statistics are also in Top 100 available.

You can also browse through the list of registred users

And see what they have, what they wish for, what they sell

Power Spikes 2 AES listed as a conversion but the Aero Fighters 3 AES is just listed as controversial?

Great site though, design is very well done and I like the overall look and feel.

I like the concept, I don't like the store.

People here are not gonna put their collections on sale anywhere but in a thread here because sales happen so fast in most regards. Also, there is already a stigma against no-namers with no investment in the forums to buy carts. This store just makes it even more of a problematic thing.

Good luck, but don't expect much contribution in carts except for super commons.

maybe instead of the store keep up to date price guides for everything.

Thanks for these firsts comments !
Any improvement ideas are welcome.

Yep.
Aero Fighters 3 AES US = Tonk & David G controversial Release
No conversion was ever made, prior to that.
Power Spikes 2 AES US & Jap = Conversion that were done years before the Tonk & David G US release.

But you're right. We should also have the Power Spikes II US & Euro controversial AES release

People here are not gonna put their collections on sale anywhere but in a thread.

Very good point.
At first, it's more like an easy way to list what I have for sale. And this part works.
But I'm not sure people want to use this site to sell/buy things. Maybe later but not right now.

To solve this issue, we have the "Export to Forum" function, that you find in the shop.

Sadly, it doesn't fit (yet) the forum code of neo-geo.com, but already works in vbulletin based forums like neogeofans.com

See example here

maybe instead of the store keep up to date price guides for everything.

We do that "with" the store.
Every time someone sell an item, it's used to feed the database with price and condition.

See example here

It's a good idea and at first I was impressed with the presentation. However the quality of the scans are quite poor, showing all imperfections of the inlay. I'd image this would get better over time I guess, ill see what I can do in terms of providing some higher quality scans for the site.

It still blows my mind that anybody would even want to convert that game to AES, Legend of Success Joe was a better game than that one.

Looks a great idea, I hope it takes off for you...

If you have any high-res scans that you can donate to NeoGeoSoft then that would be very much appreciated... :D

Good luck... :)

"Most owned article" probably won't ever change.

Hi everybody,

I'm the developer of this site and here my answers :

@Fandangos
What do you mean by Price Guide ? We can discuss of this feature and see how I could implement it.

@nectarsis
You are able to add stars if you have contributor role. I manually added these reviews (with score: 87%, 4/5, ...) from various sources like websites or video games papers.
Do you know where I could find reviews from US origin ?

@rcantor77
You should ask Takou for this ;)

@K1ngArth3r
Yes many scans are in poor quality and we hope the community will help us to gather hi-res scans :)

@trenog
I can understand that the store is not a good idea, but actually it's a tool to manage his own market and export it to forum. Like Takou said, there will be many formats in the future (like phpBB for example).

I think it's a great idea. I was wanting to do the same thing, but for all consoles... the problem is I don't known anything outside of HTML and very little CSS.

[edit]
Hmmm... for some reason it does not let me stay signed in. I've tried several different browsers, but as soon as I log in it does not register that I'm logged in.

I agree. Drop the store. Add a real price guide. Add a link for the NeoStore though. :)

I always wanted to build up our own neogeodb.com Picture database.
Therefore, we never use any picture that could already be found on the net.

Most of the NGCD scans are from my collection, some Home Carts too.
Greedo has largly contributed by scaning his Japanese Home Cart collection.
Blc29 and Backscope helped for all the NGP/NGPC scans
Others have also contributed with lesser quality pics.

Anyone who wants to contribute by providing a missing cover, or help replace an
exsiting one that doesn’t look good enough, please do so :D

As for giving aways the pics... maybe when we've got a full set.

"Most owned article" probably won't ever change.

Yeah, you're right.
But still, it's an interesting information.
And it was something that couldn't be confirmed until now.
... yet we know that this game is and always will be "Sam Sho 2" !

More or less like this:
http://www.neo-geo.com/guides/menu.html

Those are out of date and they were based on ebay and this forums sales to set a price for the games.
I agree. Drop the store. Add a real price guide. Add a link for the NeoStore though. :)

The whole idea of our database is to automaticly generate sales stats.
That would be your price guide, but better.

It can also work, without users actually buying stuff on the neogeodb store.
For example, I list what I have for sell.
Once it's sold, on the forum, on ebay, or elsewhere, I mark it as "sold".

Of course, it's pointless if I'm alone, but if many do it, you'll have an up to date price guide,
based on the sales recorded on neogeodb.

It still blows my mind that anybody would even want to convert that game to AES, Legend of Success Joe was a better game than that one.

You have to admit, the insert looks nice.

Looks cool guys, good job.

Thanks. It's much appreciated.

Hi, Here some news from neogeodb.com :
Less news from our side in the past months, but we're still here and neogeodb is a continuous work in progress
On going bug fixing
New functions on the to do list, so little time to work on them... :-(
Still on the lookout for cover scans. Many US home carts are still missing. Anyone ?
Any comments on the shop and what we should improve is welcomed. Tell us what you think

Small update, for more clarity in the listings, we've change the "?" Pic that was used for missing covers into something more... "classy"

It's also yet clear that

- We are looking for theses covers and awaiting your contributions.
- We'd like a specific format for theses pics, best solution being the use of a flatbed scanner.

Pocket, HN64 and MVS not done yet, but will be updated.

We're still here, and managed to scan the full NeoGeo CD US/JP set.

See here

A few things are still missing:

- Blue's Journey US (will be done in the next days)
- Magician Lord US with spine card.
- WH2J with spine card.

Thanks to Stefano, we now have proof that Ninja Commando US was also sold "sealed", like normal NGCD games.

da7ff85f-f184-41d2-b9ee-f7d057912818.jpg

It lets us wonder if the CD inside this sealed game also has a japanese label.
But I guess Stefano won't help us find out by breaking the seal of this very scarce game.

ninjacommando_cd_jp.jpg

It will remain a mystery of the NGCD bizarre history.

Hey Takou, Thanks a lot for sharing this status about cdDB, imDB and other DB of neo-geo. It's really helpful to all peoples like me which are new to this forum.

When I use to get my NGCD games, I purchased straight from the distributors warehouse as use to collect them at wholesale price and defo got WH2J from them, but for the life of me can't remember if it was japanese language but I guess it must have been if no us/euro version exists....I do find it odd though if the UK distributors were selling JAP games. And I also remember SNK_GUI from Australia saying he had an english version. But the mind does play tricks.
Nice site.
