Anyone from Sector: NGP remember the Ganbare NeoPoke Kun FAQ I was working on? I ran across it somehow on my PC (last modified 5/7/02!), and I figured I'd post it here. I realize that "scoring" is a bit pointless and whatnot, but I figure this can help some people out. If someone (or a group) wants to take this FAQ and finish it, be my guest! On with the FAQ:

1.) Legal Stuff
This game was made by SNK for the NeoGeo Pocket Color system. In no way am I affiliated with SNK (other than being a fan) myself. Game names are copyright of their respective companies.
2.) Introduction
This is my first FAQ. I decided to write it because I enjoy the game and because I want others to be able to enjoy the game. That being said...
Ganbare NeoPoke Kun is a quirky game, and is very unique. Our hero, Poke Kun, lives within your NeoGeo Pocket Color system. He is an odd fellow, looking like some kind of anamorphic insect. He is no bum, however. He has a job, and that is building mini games. These games vary greatly, and most parody or clone some game to an extent.
3.) Poke Kun's World
Poke Kun, as said before, lives within your NeoGeo. At first, one would think that this is a virtual pet, but there is really no way to directly control our friend and his strange little life. We can, however, conrtol his environment:
Joystick up: Turns light switch on and off
Joystick down: Makes little bugs appear on floor
Joystick right: Makes hand or foot come through door
Joystick left: Makes little animation in upper-left corner
Option: Lets you save game
A: Makes guest apperar
B: Takes you to minigame menu
A+B+Option (held down): Lets you restart ENTIRE game (careful!)
As mentioned above, there is no direct way to control Poke Kun. But, we can influence him. Button A is the key. With a push of the button, the dorbell will ring, and someone (or someting) will appear, ranging from a Power Ranger to a man and a dog to a perverted, smiley American to a robot hand... there are many different guests that do different things, and make Poke Kun happy, sad, scared, confused, or even cold. This game takes advantage of the clock funtion of your NGPC, and different guests appear at different times.
NOTE: Sometimes, there will be a speaker at the door. When you press A, it emits differnt sounds, such as a preson burping, fanfare, a person sneezing, etc. These sounds also effect Poke Kun's emotions.
If our friend is rather happy, he will pick up a construction helmet full of tools and walk away. Do not be alarmed, however, because he is going to work. And his job is building minigames! You can peek in on him working away by pressing A. Now, on to the minigames!
HINT: Holding left or right on the joystick will more often than not send him to work after a few seconds! Contributed by: ???
4.) The Games
In total, there are 30 minigames (quite a lot for a 16 megabit cart!), each representing a game or genre of game. There are different ranks you can earn on games, too, depending on how well you do. This is my format for listing game info:
Game number
How to play
My advice (if any)
Scoring
What Game it Parodies
4a.) Page 1
Game: 1
How to play: Bounce the ball off your paddle to the other paddles on the top. Left and Right on the joystick move the paddle. The game ends once the ball slips past your paddle.
My advice: I remain close to the center, and move only once the ball is out of range.
Scoring: 1 point for each rebound off your paddle
Parodies: Pong
Game: 2
How to play: Move the cross and avoid the two balls bouncing around for as long as possible. The joystick moves the paddle in all directions. The game ends when your paddle is hit.
My advice: I stay in one corner, and move only once I'm about to be hit.
Scoring: No real points, just a timer, counting up.
Parodies: Pong
Game: 3
How to play: Move the "H" from the bottom to the top of the screen while avoiding the paddles. Move before launching with left and right, launch with A, accelarate with up, slow with down. You get 3 lives. You lose a life when your "H" collides with a paddle. The game ends when you lose all lives.
My advice: Launch from the sides of the field once the paddles are mostly on the other side.
Scoring: No points; a counter counts the stage.
Parodies: Pong, with elements of Frogger
Game: 4
How to play: A ball is breaking bricks, and your cross must dodge the bricks. The joystick moves the cross. You can direct the ball with your paddle. You get 3 lives. You lose a life when a brick hits you. The game ends when you lose all lives.
My advice: Let the ball do all the work. Stay in a bottom corner, and move only once a brick is about to fall on you.
Scoring: 1 point for every brick the ball knocks down
Parodies: Breakout
Game: 5
How to play: You are a spaceship, floating through space. Dodge the diamond-shaped red asteroids, and pick up white space pods if you can. A small map shows your distance to the goal. The joypad moves the ship. You get 3 lives. You lose a life when you hit an asteroid. The game ends when you lose all lives.
My advice: None
Scoring: 10 points for each white space pod you gather.
Parodies: ???
4b.) Page 2
Game: 6
How to play: A volcano is erupting, and Poke Kun must dodge the various fireballs. Try to pick up the vegetables along the way. Left and right move Poke Kun. You get 3 lives. A life is lost if a fireball hits you. The game is over when you lose all lives. One should note that the fireballs speed up several times before time runs out.
My advice: None
Scoring: 1 point for the onion-looking vegetables, 3 points for the rice cakes. Also, there is a timer that counts down until the volcano stops.
Parodies: ???
Game: 7
How to play: Poke Kun is a ninja in red, and he must attack other colored ninjas. Left and right move, A shoots ninja stars (up to two on screen at once), B jumps. The white ninjas take 2 hits to kill; they also seem smarter. You get 3 lives. A life is lost each time a ninja star hits you. The game is over when all lives are gone.
My advice: As soon as I see a green ninja, I run up to it and attack it, but when I see a white ninja, I stay far away and attack from a distance.
Scoring: Green ninjas are worth 500 points, white ninjas are worth 1000. If 2 or more ninjas are hit without missing, their initial point value is doubled, then doubled again, etc.
Example: PK hits a green ninja- 500 pts. He hits another green ninja-1000 points. He hits the white ninja without missing- 4000 points.
Parodies: ???
Game: 8
How to play: Just like game 7, but with a few differnces:
1.) The ninjas have been replaced with mobsters, and there is only one type
2.) The game is constantly scrolling to the right
3.) There are moving vehicles in the game that deplete a life
My advice: Take a running jump before jumping over very large vehicles. Also, the mobsters can be run over, so when you hear a car, wait a while before firing, because if the mobster you're firing at gets run over before the star hits, it counts as a miss.
Scoring: Each mobster is worth 500 points. Just like game seven, the points per mobster increase with more hits.
Parodies: ???
Game: 9
How to play: The ship is attacking the aliens at the top of the screen, and Poke Kun is in the middle of the insanity. Beware, because the aliens can swoop down for an attack, and also fire bullets. Points increase as aliens are destroyed by the ship. You get 3 lives. A life is lost when you are hit by an alien or bullet. The game ends when all lives are gone.
My advice: I hug the sides, and move only once aliens or bullets are headed my way.
Scoring: All aliens are worth 50 points.
Parodies: Galaga
Game: 10
How to play: Poke Kun is parachuting to the ground. He must avoid rockets and birds along the way, and he can gather balloons. A radar shows your surroundings; red blips are enemies, yellow blips are balloons, and the white "T" is Poke Kun. You move Poke Kun left and right with the joystick, and you can slow his descent by holding up, and quicken it by holding down. Once you are close to the bottom, open the parachute with A. Note that control becomes much harder while the parachute is open. You have 3 lives. You lose a life when you hit an enemy, or you hit the ground too hard. The game is over when all lives are lost.
My advice: I stay close to the sides, and only move once I see a rocket coming my way.
Scoring: A balloon is worth 100 points. A timer also counts up, so you can see how long it took you to reach the ground.
