This link can be used for the following games:

King of Fighters R-2 ( with King of Fighters Dream Match 99)
SNK Vs. Capcom Match of the Millennium (With King of Fighters Dream Match 99, SNK Vs. Capcom Cardfighters Clash, and with Capcom Vs. SNK Millennium Fight)
SNK Vs. Capcom Cardfighters 2 Expand Edition (With Capcom Vs. SNK 2 Mark of the Millennium)
Cool Cool Jam (Supposedly with Cool Cool Toon)

Rumored:
Memories Off Pure (with Memories Off Second)

They had a great idea, but they didn't maximize it. It would have been cool if the link was required to unlock secret characters otherwise unattainable, open up new artwork, maybe additional mini games like the way Dreamcast did with their VMU.

Not much...just trade info and moves and stuff. More of a novelty item than anything else.

c.t.h. isn't being very clear. Once you complete King of Fighters R-2, what happens is the RPGish Making Mode is unlocked, and you can fight a kind of survival match to win some skills. These all do something cool, like there's Orochi's Mushiki that you can perform, pull out guns or throw grenades, increase your attack power, always start with 3 power stocks, etc. There are several moves that were Dreamcast exclusive, so unless you had the Dream Match 99, there was no way for you to get these skills. Some of them are kind of junky, like the ability to transform into other characters, which I really hated because they should have allowed you to change characters on the fly for Making Mode.

All the other stuff just allows you to trade points and what not.

I almost forgot, King of Fighters: Battle de Paradice and King of Fighters 99 (Japanese version) could link up, you could trade battle ability points, or unlock new strikers. For the Japanese version, I believe this was the only way for you to get strikers like Syo and Gai, and levelling up strikers on King of Fighters: Battle de Paradice was a lot quicker than collecting battle ability points on the Dreamcast game. That was probably the coolest use of that Dreamcast/NGPC link.

I dunno...I always thought it was a big waste of 30$. They didn't really exploit it's abilities.

It's a bit frustrating to have KoF R-2 and to know there's stuff in it you'll never have in it, because you're missing some accessories, console, game or whatever... :p

Not that frustrating, but well, you can't say you have 100% beaten the game because of that.

I thought the utilization of the pocket links were getting better and better, but it's obvious that without some seriously bigger cartridges, few could hold that much more extra cool stuff. King of Fighters R-2 actually utlized the feature alright, because it gave you some funky ass moves to play with in Making mode, and it unlocked the picture gallery in the Dreamcast title. Match of the Millennium allowed the transfer of points between consoles, as well as the ability to gain vs. points that you could use toward purchasing the extra SDMs. But NGPC was on a sinking ship, and I mean Sega's Dreamcast unfortunately, so it was inevitable that this partnership would never be fully realized.

I used to have the link back in the day and when I used it to link up with my MOTM it unlocked all the characters. Then one day I linked my two MOTM games together for a head to head match and suddenly both my MOTM games had all the characters unlocked. Now I don’t know if linking the first MOTM to the DC had anything to do with it or maybe whenever you link a completely unlocked MOTM with another it unlocks the second MOTM automatically or what. But that’s what happened. I could have sworn that the first CVS for the DC also link up with the NGPC as well. Anyhow it’s a cool little link to have in a DC collection. They run about $40.

Yeah, MotM links to the Japanese Capcom vs SNK, one-way only, though.

And, by the way, its Infinity Cure linking with Never7~the End of Infinity~, rather than the Memories Off games.
