Whatever it is, it doesn't look like a game. It doesn't even conform to the Neo Geo Pocket Color game box spines. Where'd you find this picture?

Never seen it before. Might be one of those HK pirate multicarts maybe?

Ah! Good thinking, that's probably what it is. "new game" sounds kinda like hongkong engrish. I hate it when I see things and I don't know what they are!

It's a pirate multicart.
You can tell because the Pocket logo is "re-arranged".

I remember the old GameGear pirate multicarts had the 3 colors in the logo switched around and the package said: "Gear Games".

Yeah, it's either the 9-in-1 or the 12-in-1. They are actually numbered something like NEOP001 and NEOP002. The 4-in-1 (which I'm looking for if anyone's got one for S/T) and the 5-in-1 are made by another outfit and had no boxes. The 12 and 9 were pretty good production quality overall. The boxes are somewhat reflective with a pattern superimposed on the printing. 2D sold quite a few awhile back on eBay and ckchan can get you some I believe...

Yep that's it, I got such a cart too... o_o
The 12 in 1 one.

Edit: Maybe I should dump it and also dump the Metal Slug 2nd Mission demo cart, since they've never been dumped so far, as far as I know...

Hmmmm... Dumping the 12 in 1 cart doesn't seem like an easy task...
I can only dump 4, 8, 16 or 32 meg carts... And this one is special and has several games, so none of those would work.

As for the MS2 beta... I dumped it but it won't work with NeoPop, neither with Koyote or NGPocket.

Doubt it'd work with Rape or NeoPocott.

Don't the HK carts involve some form of bank switching circuitry?

I doubt whether a straight dump of the ROM would be of much use, unless you were going to write a custom emulator of some form...

I remember finding a dump some time ago. They do exist, but are only useful for people with flash carts I think.

How so ?
Since it wouldn't be possible to fit all those games on a 32 meg cart...
There is MotM on both the 9 in 1 and 12 in 1 carts, and that game alone takes up all the 32 megs of the cart.

There is a dump of one of them. It's the 12-in-1, I think. Though, as you guys mentioned, it's not of much use. You can't put it on a flash cart, and even if you get an emulator to run it, why not just emulat the games separately?

The hardware is pretty intriguing, though. I wonder if the chips are flashable.

I'd be pretty interested in seeing the beta dump you made, Stifu!

Here it is: <a href="http://stifu.free.fr/Met2ndt.zip" target="_blank">http://stifu.free.fr/Met2ndt.zip</a>

I dumped it as a 16 meg cart, because that's the default option it proposed me... Meaning the linker recognized it as a 16 meg cart.

As I said, I can't get it to work with anything.
Maybe I would need to redump it ? Like as a 32 meg cart this time...

(The name of the file is its original file name, it most likely means Metal Slug 2nd Mission Trainer)

Hmmm the original cart does work on the NGPC, but I didn't try to flash my ROM on my 32 meg cart to try it on my NGPC.

Although, an explanation of the fact the ROM doesn't work on any known emulator would be that since that dump was never released ealier, the emulator authors couldn't work on making their emulators compatible with that ROM...

I just tried that, it didn't work.
Just gives a white screen when launched with an emulator...

So I think 16 megs is the right size.

Also, what program are you using to dump the ROM?

In theory, the emulators should run it if the NGPC runs it. There are enough emulators to choose from. I'd assume that one of them would run it properly, assuming the dump is exactlly the same as the cart.

Some linker programs might not figure out the size of the cart properly, though, so it could be a 32M cart dumped as 16M. That'd be bad for the emu.

I use ngpc_win for my dumps.

There's are quite a few games that no emulator can launch, so...
And as I said, maybe the emu authors could just not work on that aspect of their emulator... Like if the demo cart uses some different things than the finished cart...

Hey Stifu, I'll try flashing it onto my 32M card. Is there a difference between the proto and the real MS2?

Well, if you can get me a 32M dump of it (twice as big can't hurt, but half as big can) then I know an emu author that would probablly work on it.

Also, try using my PocketSend to dump it. You can find it <a href="http://www.personal.triticom.com/~erm/NGPC/" target="_blank">here</a>.

PocketSend also has a cart-interrogation if you have the cart in and hit About. It'll make a CartInfo.txt file that's mostly useless to most people but I find it rather interesting. I'd really like to see what the N-in-1 CartInfo.txt looks like.

Anyway, a 32M dump would be nice. Then we might be able to get it running on an emulator.

Just 1 level is playable, you get no option and no continue, and you get a Jap message giving you info about the release of MS2 once you've finished the level, like its price at its release and stuff.

And Flavor, I'll check out that program and try to redump the game with it...
