Wonder if any Prototype Neo Geo Pocket color games ever made it public?

But if they have, I'd be extremely skeptical before I plunge my dollars down. Last thing I want is a bootleg hacked version of a game with sprites cut and paste from the existing Neo Geo Pocket games. There was this terrible debacle about whether there was actually a Mark of the Wolves for Gameboy Advance, turns out it was a hong kong fake, one of the tip offs being, the sprites look like they came from Match of the Millennium, the Engrish was terrible and what's Ryo doing in Mark of the Wolves??

So did KoF R-3 exist? Where'd that one come from?

That's a nice cover...but it looks something straight out of those awful HK KoF comics.

FAKE! FAKE! FAKE!
-Look! It's a B&W game cover!
-the title is exactly the same as kof R-1 and an ugly 3 was drawed....
-the latest ngpc games were in cardboard. Why did they use a clamshell???
-the hero of kof 99 is K' (kof R-1=kof 97, kof R-2=98...)....
there is a lot a details like these!

I'll try and dig them out later!

I think they're behind the Euro Kizuna's, and Tetris Game and Watches, on top of the pile of Wondermega's.

Yeah, that's without a doubt a fake, I remember seeing that a long time ago and yes, it too impressed me at first, but K' is the protagonist of the King of Fighters 99 that is why pretty much all covers feature him, very unlikely would there be the Kyo and Iori rivalry featured on the cover. Nevertheless, it was confirmed to be in development, but no screenshots were available pending its release so its existence is very dubious. Still, Playmore does have all of SNK's intellectual property so who's to say that it isn't somewhere in the office...

I don't think it was ever in doubt that that pic was a fake was it? There are some box art shots etc from some of the trade shows featuring some of the "lost" items (mainly the mp3 player iirc) - searching the forums should yield those...

As for the unreleased games? I doubt whether we'll ever see them. I've been following the dev groups for years now and still haven't seen *anything* out of the official teams.

It's extremely unlikely that any (bar the one Aruze pachinko game which *nearly* made production) of the unreleased games ever made it to the cartridge duplication stage - the NGPC development kit consisted of the various compilers (actually, SNK only officially supported the assembler - the standard toshiba C compiler was used if developers needed C, but I don't think there was ever an official SNK C library) an emulator (possibly hardware assisted). I'm not even sure if there was a flash linker kit, although I would have thought that there was. But anyway, cartridges would only be produced when the game was going to production.

It's possible that playmore or, more likely, the original development teams have some of the source/ROM images/graphics hanging around on disk or in their warehouses but they have repeatedly stated that they have zero interest in releasing NGPC stuff. Shame on them.

Cheers

Ho, so the Neo Geo Pocket Color uses C programming language? I'd love to learn more.

Can't really help with the official stuff - I do have some of the documentation I can zip and archive on the web somewhere, but if you're interested in devving your own stuff go here:

:)

For a quick lowdown on how coding the NGPC works (using Ivan's framework) there is a tutorial at my site (check the sig)

EDIT: Which appears to have disappeared... <a href="http://www.ahchay.com/ngpcdev" target="_blank">http://www.ahchay.com/ngpcdev</a>

Was there? Cool - got any pics?

Unless you mean the Bung kit of course (which I do know about)

I found this website that listed the games which were released for the Neo Geo Pocket according to year, and the list of games that were in development or rumored to be in development but arrested because SNK's console left the domestic shores. Pretty interesting stuff, you can see the page here:
<a href="http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-Knight/3990/soft.NEOGEOpocket.html" target="_blank">www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-Knight/3990/soft.NEOGEOpocket.html</a>

I didn't know Midway had plans to develop Mortal Kombat for the pocket, though I can't say I'm entirely thrilled about the idea, but it would without a doubt play better than the Gameboy counterpart, should it have been completed.
