Well, my Japanese Capcom & SNK cardfighters carts turned up today so I have been busy *finally* making some use of my wireless adaptors
First impressions are actually quite good. It took me a little while to figure out how to set them up for use, but once I did. Well. It just sort of works. And works well... Here's how...
Each wireless adaptor needs a unique ID, Fortunately the link menu (normally VERSUS, GIVE CARD, GET CARD, POCKET LINK) has an extra option just for this
You have the option to set your own ID (which must be non-zero) and also to set up a buddy list for the other machines in the network. This info is saved into the carts flash memory so you do only need to do it when you add new machines
EDIT: And theres a third option to search for any other machines in the vincinity - presumably to help create little ad-hoc networks...
Anyway, once setup, it really is as simple as choosing Versus mode as normal and, instead of using a link cable, you can select from your "buddies" list (or you can create an ad-hoc game) and play as normal.
An indicator in the top-left of the screen tells you how strong your signal strength is. Effective range is about 20 feet.
So far, I've not had much chance to test it for real. But it works well and if you could actually get 10 or more wireless links in one place, there is a lot of potential for using it for a CFC-league type game. Bit pointless for only two machines though...
Anyway, a picture of it in operation can be found at <a href="http://www.arcadenirvana.com/photos/ngpc/wirelesscfc.jpg" target="_blank">http://www.arcadenirvana.com/photos/ngpc/wirelesscfc.jpg</a>
Anyway, next weekend I shall be taking my NGPC's to oxford for a weekend gaming party so shall hopefully find a couple of willing volunteers to test it a bit more thoroughly.
Now, if only this would work with the English CFC!
Cheers
Chris
