You read it right. US clamshell games.

I believe these could only be obtained 1-2 months on the now defunct eToys prior to the official US launch of the NGPC in stores. All the launch games (to my knowledge) were available in these clamshell cases. I happen to own three - Metal Slug 1st Mission, KoF R2 and Samurai Shodown 2!.

I know the artwork is the same as the UK versions, but SS2! has slightly different artwork.

Kind of reminds me of the carton box home carts..

Here are some pix ...

I just want to know if anybody else knows about these?? Are these common?

Can't see those pics, if anyone is in doubt of their region you can scan the part of the box with the SNK USA address on it. Otherwise they Asian or Euro.

There was some unresolved confusion a while back about clam cases in the States, regarding KOF-R1 and Samurai Shodown 1 getting an official US clam-cased release.

Whoaaa, I got both Metal Slug and KoF R-2. Metal Slug has a different backcover, but KoF R-2 seems to be the same... Its pretty irritating, many UK releases have different backcovers, it could be UK, but then again... It surely could be US since you picked em up at the launch. Are those playable for ''Every One'' stickers on the front??

I have a samsho2 that looks the same as that, I don't know what region it is as it is second hand, but I had assumed Asian or Euro.

I've not seen Metal Slug 1st or KOF-R2 with back covers like that before.

What is the address for the SNK office on the back of them?

U.S. clamshell cases were around for at least a few months. Actually, most of my games are in the clamshell cases. Here's what I have in U.S. clamshells:

KOF R-2
Bust-A-Move Pocket
Metal Slug 1st Mission
Samurai Shodown! 2

Ah, yeah... as for those "E" stickers, none of my clamshell games have them. I think those only started appearing once NGPC games were available in retail stores, instead of just online.

I got mine from SNK U.S.A. before the official launch, and got the clamshell cases. The various gambling games were available that way, as was Fatal Fury: First Contact, KOF-R2, Samurai Showdown 2, Metal Slug: First Mission, Bust-A-Move Pocket (Euro/Asian releases all say Puzzle Bobble, I actually have the clamshell Bust-A-Move), and everything released before Dark Arms: Beast Busters 1999 was available as a U.S. clamshell, I believe.

If I remember right the clamshell cases were the European releases of the games. Many of them got shipped over here to sell also. Could be wrong?

No, they are U.S. As I said, the Euro clamshells of Puzzle Bobble Pocket SAY Puzzle Bobble Pocket, where as the U.S. one says Bust-A-Move Pocket. Likewise, some of them actually have the ESRB rating printed on the inserts, not stuck on afterwards. Plus, no Euro ratings on the back.
