I've been giving Puyo Pop (Puyo Puyo Tsu) a lot of time in my Neo Geo Pocket lately, and the more I play it the more I love it. I know the difficulty level is unreasonably hard, I can't believe they let the Puyos drop that fast since I never remembered it being that hard when it was on the SNES (haven't played the Wonderswan version, but they look like brothers and sisters judging from the screenshot), but being a Puyo Puyo Master is surprisingly satisfying. At reasonable speeds, setting up your chains is what it takes to topple your opponent, you begin to develop a sixth sense for the placement of Puyos just by looking at the next piece, and then everything falls into place.
I must gripe they didn't put a lot of work into coordinating the music with the SFX. When Puyos are in motion the music craps out. I don't know how many channels the NGPC has, but I've noticed that one sound effect is switched out for the other when the CPU can't keep up, but maybe being an early release has something to do with it. Voices still can't be reproduced in real time with music or sound effects, but at the very least sound effects can be reproduced in real time with music on all other releases other than Puyo Pop.
