I don't think I've ever seen a topic dedicated to Cotton, so I'll start one.

To anybody who owns or has played the NGPC version of Cotton, what do you think of it?

Personally, I like it.

I'm not a big fan of shooters, so I'm not the best person to judge what's good or what's not for this genre, but I know a fun game when I play one.

With 7 levels and 2 bosses per level, it's a fairly challenging game and it kept me busy for a while. I also thought the bosses were really well done, each one has a secret to defeating it, so you have to use a different strategy every time.

The music was also nicely done, a new song for every level and pumped up beats during boss battles sets a good mood for this type of game, no complaints here.

The only fault I can see is with the games graphics, while they certainly aren't bad, I just expected more out of the NGPC. But there are plenty of enemies on the screen, so perhaps this was done to avoid slowdown, or just laziness on the developers side, who knows.

But overall, I think it's a great game that everyone who owns a NGPC should at least try.

Well I think the grapichs are like that to avoid slowdown,I honestly think the NGP was not developped with color in mind games who use "16bit graphics" always seem to have slowdown on it (MS2,Cool Boarders,..)

I like it and retains most things from it's PCEngine older brother (save the CD soundtrack). It is an easier version to the PCE one too and lacks some of the parrallax (but it wasn't done that great.)

If I recall correctly, they even kept the cinemas in tact (not that they were some of the PCE's biggest and brightest).

I'd recommend someone to pick this up, especially since there aren't that many shooters on this system.

My copy is kinda weird...
I thought I got JPN copy because that's what it said on eBay auction. Insert is in JPN and it comes with plastic case. Manual is in English (I think it's UK copy). Game has no sample voice........Hmmm......????

I don't think Cotton for NGPC made a Euro release. Your copy may be the Asian release. Don't hold me to that though as I'm hardly a NGPC expert.

As for my opinion of the game... I am a shooter fan and I found the game quite boring. I have yet to play any of the other Cotton games--maybe I'm just not a fan of the series? Who knows.

But hey, it's a shooter on a portable system. So I'm not complaining. wink

I got cotton just as the NGPC stuff got pulled from the shelves, and i love it :)

It's a really satisfying game to own with nice artwork and great cutscenes - i get the impression tho that is is a fairly direct port from the pc engine tho, and there could be some nicer visuals in some places.

Hard enough to keep you going for ages i'd say it's unique on the pocket and should be in any games cillection...

I still haven't finished it, i have to admit...

It was one of the pull out games - i got it from a local indie shop near london who grabbed a copy for me at the last minute, so i love it even more!

I don't discuss it because I haven't played it, but I've seen screenshots and it looks so cute, I just have to have it. I might pick it up next time I'm in New York, found a store that sold a bunch of Neo Geo Pocket Color games.

It's pretty far uptown, I forget the name of the place but it's about 92nd street to 96nd street, intersecting around 2 to 4th avenue? Basically if you're going up to New York you have to take the crosstown bus past central park to reach it. Sorry, I totally forget the name, but my sister has an apartment around there and I dropped in to check out the stuff, notable one was Cotton and Puyo Puyo 2, and then those po ass poker game Dragons Wild and more....
