MVS is more expensive to get started if you go via supergun, but just about the same as AES if you go 1-slot cab. The games are significantly cheaper, but you don't get alot of the extras as you would with AES (ie training modes and manuals). You could also go AES w/ Phantom-1, just as much as the supergun route, but you also get the collectible AES option :)

So all in all, if you settled in and more gamer than collector go get an MVS cab. If you like me, young college guy on the move get an AES and Phantom-1.

Did I anwser all your questions? I'm not a total expert, but trying to help! wink

If you want to save a lot of money go mvs but you do miss out on the manuals and inserts that give the collectible feel. Plus like shady said you dont get the training modes and such. So the extra money for aes does go somewhere.

And as for your other question the games arent really better on either system. They're pretty much the same exact game (besides the extra modes in aes). I would suppose the video would look better in a cabinet though. Better monitor and connection.

This is what I would suggest too. (im probably going to do mvs this way) Like he said gives you the choice.

You can all MVS-Games play in Home-Modus with the Uni-Bios on a MVS-Board.

Jap games are now very cheap.

get a "clean" glee home version of them. loco

AES or MVS = the same.

The only diferences are the Default BIOS and game prices.

Yep, and the amount of (shitty) bootlegs on MVS! lol

More seriously, nothing compares to the feeling of a true arcade cabinet (both graphically and gameplay speaking). But you need some free space in your house for this... But please, don't leave the MVS outdoor! shame

Well, If you want to jus' get this games without the extra modes (training modes, etc.) go with the MVS, but you could get a home cart system, with a Phantom 1 converter that plays MVS games and just play through the AES system, if you don't have the space or money to buy a mvs cabinet. But, me, I like training modes and the extras with the games, so, I would go with AES. But, if you want to cut the foreplay, and jus' wanna get the game and save money, go with MVS. But, if you are a collector, or you like the extras with the AES games and have money to spend, go with AES.

I would like to add, the Phantom-1 has graphical issues with games that use a lot of scrolling. Games like Last Blade and Samurai Shodown III get some nasty glitches when zooming out.

Some people probably don't care about this kind of thing, but it drove me nuts.

Are there any problems w/ ROTD or any of the other new titles when using a Phantom-1?

I haven't found any, i use the older phantom1, the black one, and play on ROTD, MS3 etc. all the time.

Also i agree going down the AES/Phantom route, that's what i did and i couldn't be happier with it.

Thanks for your input. I've been thinking about this for some time and have heard great things, but have heard problems of graphic glitches and such.

Phantom is great but you'll never get the arcade monitor's picture "style" on a TV. That's not the same feeling... eye

I much prefer AES after owning both multipule times. I plan on getting a phantom soon but the bulk majority of the games I get I want in AES format. I'm a collector at heart that likes to put things on display so I tend to like the style of the carts, boxes, inserts, and manuals of the home games. There are some games that I want on MVS just because I cant justify the price (rotd, msx, etc), that is where the phantom 1 converter comes in. While other games like MOTW I dont have a problem paying 400+ for because I know how much I enjoy the game, I know how much play it will get, and would like to have a complete package. It all depends on each individual perception of a game, how much they are willing to spend and what that game means to you. If your not into collecting though, get a candy cab, cant really go wrong with a true MVS set up either.

I suppose it depends on what type of gamer you are ?

For me only the origional Neo will do and that is the MVS hardware. It is the factory original and the way I started playing Neo , I did own an AES back in 1990 to 1994 and then sold it in favour of the origional. I have never laooked back since and consider the AES to be a great alternitive to the MVS but if room permits there is no substitute ... period !

It really comes down to what do you want to game on a a tv or a cabinet ? for my money there is no experience like the real arcade cabinet experience and im sure when you experience something like Samurai Showdown it will be the same way for you.

hmm i may be wrong but doesnt the phantom enable the other home options all the settings as well as practice mode etc? i have the blue one and ROTD and i get to access practice and i believe all the features the home version does. I would like to go the all AES cart route but its far too expensive bein in college etc. i have even been contemplating selling off my neo stuff and get back into it when i got career goin but then nothing NOTHING beats arcade/mvs gameplay :) i kno will regret it so im tryin to hang onto my MVS/phantom setup ( damn the temptation of forthcoming ps2 ports!!! although will never be as good)
