I have just got a new ads after selling my last one a couple of years ago and while playing it it seems the games are running too fast.

Is there anything that would cause this? The music on kof2000 seems messed up too, it keeps making a horrible smashing sound.

Is there a menu I can access like on the MVS? Would the power supply affect the game speed?

The speed of the system is determined by the two crystals on the board. One of them is 24 MHz and I think the other one varies from model to model. If there is damage to a crystal it may oscillate at a different frequency from what it is supposed to. This may make the hardware try to run faster (or slower) than it was meant to run which can lead to all sorts of weird things - especially if it tries to run faster. Unless you have a good oscilloscope handy it will be difficult to measure the frequency, so I would just try replacing the crystals and see it that fixes it. It should not be hard to find replacements.

1st gen used a 24.00mhz crystal for the master clock. Newer systems used 24.16mhz crystal.

Thanks for the replies. I have no idea what these crystals are, can you point me in the direction of a site that gives advice on what I need, where to get them and how to do it?

You can get a replacement crystal at places like digikey, mouser, and avnetexpress - they have lots of them. For example, go to www.digikey.com and search for the part ECS-240-S-1X and you will see one of them. Just make sure the frequency is correct and the shunt capacitor is the same as the one on your board - otherwise you will want to get a new capacitor (which is not a big deal). Also look at the datasheet to make sure the dimensions/mounting are appropriate. They only cost about 50 cents or so.

It runs at about 3.6 miles an hour on a treadmill, but hasn't been clocked outdoors.
