Marvelous Entertainment announced that they are porting SNK's popular 2D fighting game The King of Fighters to GameBoy Advance. Unlike the Neo Geo Pocket versions, the GBA version will not be super deformed, the graphic style will be similar to the arcade Neo Geo version, featuring over 20 playable characters, such as Terry, Andy, Yuri, King, Robert, Kim, Cheung, Choi, Leona, Ralf, Clark, Benimaru, Bao, Kensou, and Mai. The King of Fighters for GBA is scheduled for release this December.

Thanks for the news, I'm suprised nobody posted about this in the NGPC forum yet - but there was a topic about this from a couple of days ago on the news and rumours forum:
KOF GBA Topic

There are a few other things about KOF on the GBA too - apparently it is going to be 2 on 2 matches instead of 3 on 3 and there will be no strikers... I have no idea why its 2 on 2, as it is not like the GBA couldn't hand 3 on 3...

Maybe the reason its two on two is because there's an active tagging system a'la Marvel vs Capcom?

Maybe it does have a tagging system... that would be good, but personally I would rather have both 3 on 3 and tag options, like in MOTM... but mayeb I am just being greedy <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

As far as I know, you CAN use Japanese and US carts on an English GBA. I don't think any GB systems have had territorial lockouts on them, not to the best of my knowledge anyway. I'm sure it is like NGPC - all carts can be used on any machine.

Yes, you can play any GBA/GB/GBC cart on any GBA. The system is indeed universal like the NGPC.

The GBA can play games from every region. I imported my GBA from Japan 2
months ago, and I'm currently enjoying / playing U.S. titles like Castlevania, SDB,
and THPS2 on it. I'm even using Official U.S. A/C adapters and power packs -- so far, so good with the compatibility issue.

Thanks alot guys/gals, you've just made my day.
I prefer kof in its 3 on 3 system, but snk might change the hole system again for kof 2001, well at least we get something new to test our skills upon... thats not a bad thing though.

The control may not be as good with that pad, but it will do a good job in all other aspect in the game I might imagine.

Does anyone know if this game has been picked up in the US?

Can't wait for KOF GBA it will finally give me a reason to buy the system!! I just played Mario Kart and was not too happy about it. Does anyone remember KOF and World Heroes Jet on the original GB they actually turned out pretty cool and were percursors to the ngp ones.

I heard the storyline was suppossed to take place between 97 and 99, but by the look of the screens, it'll just be a port. Just as well... I'd hate to have to have a chapter of the KOF story exclusivly on GBA, no matter how good a handheld it is.
