OK, so Edge Retro says that there may be less than 10 copies but it seems like a lot of people here have it. I propose we do a count. Everyone that has a UK hard case version, post here and up the number by 1....

Me first..

This is a good idea, I would love to know where all the copies are.

I have the UK Clam shell version.

10 copies?

So I guess the price of Pocket Reversi has inflated to £800 or something stupid now. Everytime Edge do something about "retro" or "collections" they manage to completely mess up one market or another.

Realistically I'd say there's atleast 100 copies. Maybe a few hundred.

Back when the NGPC was still kinda alive I saw copies of Pocket Reversi on sale quite often, but I wasn't into collecting and was oblivious to the fact that everything was getting recalled so I never bought a copy :( Unless all of those 10 copies were on sale in Loughborough and Melton Mowbray I'm sure that there's quite a few more copies floating around.

maybe they got recalled and destroyed/recycled, I mean who the hell wants to play a reversi game, especially a Uk'er.

thsi si what I said,

"It is likely that there were 1, 000 of these made before they were shipped back to Japan but no one knows how many copies of the game actually escaped into the hands of consumers. the nich appeal probably means it was less than 50 and MAYBE below ten."

At the time of writing there was a thread on these forums requesting people to come forward who owned the game. Only two people did.

I think that will probably be more than 10 flying around, but almost definately less than a 100.

I have sourced a couple in the last 12 months from the US so it certainly seems to me that there are more out there.

You are assuming that everyone who owns the game knows about neo-geo.com, and also that everyone knows their true value.

It is likely that there are a lot of copies out there, with people just not realising what they are, or are just not bothered about telling anyone.

I certainly think that more than 10 would have been sold when they came out. There are always a fair few people who collect games when they first come out.

At the end of the day, it is always going to be impossible to actually find out how many there are, as no number for produced/sold/recalled games was ever released for many of the NGPC games.

Still, this is a good idea as it obviously shows that the number will be more than 10 globally. :D

How many shops actually sent the stuff to Aruze though?

The big stores (EB, Game, etc) probably did, but Another World, Game Station etc certainly didn't. At the time I knew a guy who ran a game shop and market stand who was VERY pissed off at the whole thing and decided to sell his remaining stock off cheap to the people he knew would appreciate having the last few games. As I said at the time I didn't really know about the whole situation and I didn't really have a whole lotta money to buy up all the games but I got a few (metal slug 2nd mission, faselei, maybe a few more I can't remember) from him for £15 each. He had a couple of Reversis, and I doubt they went back to Aruze..

Were Aruze giving retailers full refunds? Cause this guy was PISSED about it.

As 2D said alot of people might have pocket reversi and not even know that it's rare, and not even know about Neo-geo.com. Your best friends little sister might have a copy. The wierd guy who smells of wee who lives a few houses down from you might have a copy. Just because it's "rare" doesn't mean that only a select 10 collectors have a copy, this thing was on sale in your local games shop anyone could have bought it.

Also I bet Telegames have a box or two stashed away ready to charge £800 for in the future ;)

Or NGF bought 1,000 copies and are busy making corrected inserts now.

That was soo funny I almost fell over. But seriously now, he's right - I'd say conservatively that there is at LEAST 500 copies floating out there. I mean some videogame junkies buy every game as it's released, so I can easily see that many out there. Plus I'm sure there is still boxes in stores backrooms, or peoples basements - I mean who would (a non videogamer) think a game for an old defunct system would be worth jack? And especially an othello game...

I don't need to read the artical to know that saying "there may be less than 10 copies in the world" is as stupid as saying "The Vectrex is worth £1000"

At the time of writing there was a thread on these forums requesting people to come forward who owned the game. Only two people did.

So every NGPC owner in the world reads the forums on neo-geo.com??

You need to read the article to get the context you idiot. The theory presented was one from Nigeronpa- who owns every ngpc game ever released in the world. That's more than you- so stop shooting your mouth off.

Comments like, "That's like saying the vectrex is worth £1000 now" show the level of your argumentitive skills. I suppose sayin there are only two known copies of Euro kizuna encounter in the world would be just as sensationalistic...

The fact is- this is what was said:

"It is likely that there were 1, 000 of these made before they were shipped back to Japan but no one knows how many copies of the game actually escaped into the hands of consumers. the nich appeal probably means it was less than 50 and MAYBE below ten."

So- It has been pointed out that there were no more than 1000 copies of the game.

It is also mentioned in the article that there have only EVER been two copies put on ebay. This is a very good indication that there are LESS than 50 odd copies. It also says, "No-one knows"

If the article had said, "Less than 50 copies were sold and probably less than 10) then maybe your ramblings would be justified. But it doesn't. So there

Remember people, The NGPC wasn't all that well known and pocket reversi is a crap game (come on it's no metal slug of KOF) so it could VERY EASILY turn up in a car boot sale for next to nothing! keep looking people (i know i will be)

It wouldn't surprise me if some Pocket Reversi's start turning up on Ebay as a result of the Edge article - after all, Edge was pretty instrumental in pushing the NGPC over here and it's not unlikely that anyone who *had* bought the game at retail will get to hear about it through "Retro".

As for the possibility of casual gamers having bought it? Well, it's got to have been more attractive than Cherry Masters hasn't it?

We may see a few new ebay'ers trying to turn a quick buck...

Cheers

To the best of my knowledge Edge provided the NGPC with little or no coverage and zero reviews. I did miss an issue or two so I could be wrong.

The quote is full of maybes.. Well, they PROBABLY only made 1,000 copies and then I THINK only 50 copies were sold MAYBE below 10.

YOU DON'T REALLY HAVE A CLUE HOW MANY WERE SOLD. It's just speculation. But you still make a sensationalist announcement that there's maybe less than 10 copies in the world. People aren't going to see the "maybe" and just see the "less than 10". "WHOAH!! I guess my Pocket Reversi is worth £2000 or something now!", I wouldn't be surprised if a few copies do pop up on ebay soon and with STUPID reserve prices.

The fact that there's only been 2 copies on ebay only proves that 2 people were willing to sell it on ebay. I've never sold an NGPC game on ebay, does that mean that my collection doesn't exist??

Anyway, I know I'm being an asshole about this. But each time Edge opens it's mouth about retro stuff and rarity prices go through the roof..

I'm sorry about shooting my mouth off and being so offensive about this. I'm just beligerent by nature ;) :)

I know what you guys are saying about having the game and not knowing how much it's worth. I went to a car boot sale once and bought cellophane wrapped copies of Puyo Pop, Turf Masters, Slug 1, Neo Cherry Master and Puzzle Bobble Mini, £20 for the lot. He had them up for £6 each but i cut him a deal for the whole lot :D . Another World in W'Ton also had 13 copies of Evolution in at one point, but they wanted £39.99 each for them (i thought that was too expensive at the time, when new releases should have been £24.99)The next time i went in they had all just dissapeared. If i had known then what i do now, i'd have bought all of them.

p.s Robert_gamble, where about in the Uk are you?
