How good is the NGPC?

Really how good do you all think it is? I've played the emulators which didn't give me a good impression. About 2 weeks ago a friend of mine at school showed me his. He let me play SNK vs. Capcom. Now the still shots are really nice but only 4 colors per a sprite that's horrible. As a neo geo fan I expect good art work in the games at all times. I expect good 2d artwork. Nothing flashy but Lastblade looks great on the homecart system the NGPC doesn't come close to that. I thought they were both 16 bit. Couldn't they have beefed the system up a bit?
So my question here really is how good are the games? I just bought a Sega Nomad which I really like. The only problem is it uses batteries. Wouldn't you all my fellow neo fans rather play fatal fury special, ff1, art of fighting etc. w/ the genesis games on a Nomad? Isn't that way better?
Look at this gif this guy did that i saw at mmcafe

not bad huh?

I agree with you to a point!
The NGPC is amazingly portable, very light, the batteries last forever, and I actually think that in some ways the NGPC's screen is better than the nomad!
There is no Motion blur on the NGPC for one!
This is perhaps most apparent when you play Sonic.
I love my Nomad, but you cant really compare the two. For one thing, the Nomads battery pack weighs about the same as an NGPC?
The other thing is that the NGPC's games all play great! They still feel fresh! O.K, the graphics may be mediocre at times, but the gameplay is second to none!

Buy one, it would be easier to carry than your nomad, Cheaper on batteries, and easier to replace if you drop it!

I also own both systems. the neo geo pocket was and still is a great little system. the one thing I really didnt care for was the graphics especially on the fighting games. you are right the nomad goes through batteries way to quick. all in all it depends on the games you want to play. both systems have their advantages and disadvantages

You'll change your mind once you play GBA. Graphic is far superior than NGPC.
Of course Turbo Express is cool.......
NGPC is the 3rd, not the best.

It probably isn't the best anymore. But its the best fighting handheld system in my opinion, and thats why SNK rules Also allot of goot RPG's and resonable graphics. But now theres a GBA....

Good Fighting games for NGPC:

SNK vs Capcom
Gal Fighters
KOF R-1
KOF R-2

Good Fighting games for GBA:
Street Fighter II
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Tekken (possible by Namco, not enough info at this time)

I love my NGPC. Because it has better battery life than the Turbo Express, I use the MGPC more often and only use the TE for business trips and stuff.

I've never spent money on a Nintendo system, but I may just have to submit and get the GBA. It looks VERY promising, and a store around my way is selling them brand new for slightly over $100 new. In a way, I almost can't resist...

Even though rumor spreads around that Namco will have Tekken on GBA, it might release later in the year.

GBA is indeed a 32 bit system and can do mode 7 and other cool effects but Tekken reqires a lot of polygon to display so. Namco might use software tech instead to boost GBA limitation.

It'll be interesting to see what they come up with!
Personally I doubt that the GBA will be up to doing 3D fighters! I would have thought that it'll be more akin to VF2 on Mega Drive? (But not as crapolla)

Only time will tell!
Cant wait for Starfox!

I was playing GBA F-Zero at ToysRus during lunch break (and got DC Mars Matrix too) and it's an incredible game. Excellent Mode 7 effect and fast game play. Well, since GBA is 32-bit system (SNES is 16-bit and PS/Saturn is 32-bit), I think GBA will show us something special for us in the future.

I don't think Tekken will be in 3D trough, since the GBA can't reach the graphics of Saturn and PSX yet. I'm all in for 2D fighting games

Hey Metal see anything strange?

Namco will use software Tech to reaches the 3D capacity. Remember the maximum GBA cart size will equal to Zelda 64 on N64. Don't underestimate GBA power

Wow, personaly have Zelda 64 in the house. And it looks nice. If it can reach that kind off graphics it might be able to run CapcomvsSNK ?

The NGPC is good enough that for two weeks I had stopped playing my Dreamcast after I bought it. =o) SS2 and KOF are great, as is SNK vs. Capcom
(and REALLY, doesn't SNK vs. Capcom just sound BETTER than Capcom vs. SNK?!)

Hey Cho!
As usual, I am in complete agreement with you!
It's GREAT to see that we are both actively pro-European!
I just hope the U.K adopts the Euro soon.

Hmmmmmmm!
Wasn't Zelda 256 megabyte?
That would be 2048 megabit, wouldn't it?
I seriously doubt that the GBA would have enough juice to power the cart?
Let me know if I'm wrong cos that would really be something! (Not me being wrong, GBA being able to do huge carts)
Your right though, we shouldn't underestimate GBA!
Because of the set up of the N64 hardware it couldn't produce anywhere near as many polygons as the Saturn or PSX, which is why the GBA versions of Mario Kart and Konami Racing, look more like the N64 Mario Kart! Nintendo have all the relevant experience of programming 3D on consoles more suited to 2D.
Still, clever programmers can work wonders with very little! Look at Turok 2 on N64? ONLY 8 Megabyte!!! So twice the size of MOTM on the NGPC!!!

HMMMMMMMMMMM! TUROK ADVANCE!

What do ya think?

Turok 2 is that small? You're kidding. That game has SUCH huge levels, I hated that game. It was like a 5 mile walk to get through every single level. And no, I'd have never beat the game without my trust gameshark.

Yeah, I've recently made a project of the Euro for school, well there are some cool coins and allot of different ones. But the pound is worth more so, guess England wont be getting the Euro any sooner or later. And driving on the left side of the way funny.
