Hey there! I have been going to the N-G.com forums for quite some time now, and I finally signed up today. Anyway, I'm no newbie to the NGPC scene, and on another forum I frequent under the same name (<a href="http://www.paleface.net/z/sngp" target="_blank">Sector:NGP handheld forum)</a>) we were discussing an idea for a new NGPC game : SNK vs Capcom: BattleChess. I brought this up in the chat room, and they said it would be a good idea to share it here! So, I'm posting my idea here.
My Idea: SNK vs Capcom Battlechess
Ideas:
Example of pieces: Ryu is the horse. To move to his spot, he does a Tatsumakisenpukyaku to get there. Gouki is the bishop, he teleports. Athena is SNK's bishop, she teleports to her location. Iori is the castle, he runs forward and does that "slam-them-on-the-ground-and-light-on-fire" attack. You chould choose different characters as pieces, so you could have either M Bison or Dimitri as the king of capcom, Geese or Amukasa as the king for SNK, Sakura or Jill as the Cap queen, Athena or Hibiki as SNK's queen, etc. For a fight, you would see your character attack or get KOed in a little animation
Normal game (Quest mode): You choose one of SEVERALcharacters (Kyo, Gin, Adon, Geese, etc), and play different opponents. Think MOTM tourney mode, but with chess.
Minigames:
time attack mode- you have 5 minutes to earn as many points as you can (based on traditional chess scoring but curved for strategy, agressiveness, etc; for more on points, see below)
sword fighting game (available after you play for 2 hrs)- you choose a character dressed in armor, and a striker. Your opponent edges his way to you, and you must press A in 30 sec faster than he can to win. You would then move on to other opponents. If the situation heats up, you can call in your striker, who does 5 additional hits. you can only use the striker twice TOTAL, not in one round. So you'd have to plan carefully. They all would tack on 5 hits regardless, but they have different animations\
jousting (after 4 hrs)- you choose a character to ride a horse. You then rotate the joystick in complete circles very fast to build power, then once you collide, you time the A button right (Kinda like the shoot-off game in Kirby's Adventure on NES, or the sword game in Kirby's Superstar on SNES. Except, you have, say, 5 seconds to build power, before you joust)
Options: You should be able to adjust the level of difficulty. I like the idea of having CPU intelligence matched with a character
1 (Dummy) Dan
2 Ryo
3 Iori
4 Athena
5 M Bison
6 (Genious) Geese
I also think mini heads should be placed next to the difficulty for that extra zing. (Look at the win counters in Pocket Fighter and you'll see what I mean)
Points: Points can be earned in the minigames and the normal game. Points can be used to unlock characters as pieces, artwork, background music to play during the game (You'd start out with 25 and earn 20 more), different looking chessboards, etc. None of these are really essential to gameplay (Unlike MvC2 DC). Also, high scores on the minigames would be stored.
2 Player mode: You can play chess against a friend, enemy, cousin, plant, lawn gnome, etc on another NGPC via link cable, wireless link (sounds like the perfect game for the wireless link) OR two players share a NGPC and switch off between rounds.
I think that 32 MB is PLENTY of space. GNPK fits 30 minigames and his home into 16, LB has unlockables and the like in 16MB, etc. I think that 32MB leaves space for, say, voice, maybe attacks, or possibly an announcer ("Indian on Horse opening", "Knight to C6", "CHECKMATE!" "SNK vs Capcom: Battlechess") etc. Or maybe something else, i dunno.
