Seriously, by doing that, they'd lose more money than they'd earn from it.

Adam would probably be glad to make one...if only he had someone to invest the $80,000 development fee in it. tickled

Why don't you just BUY an afterburner and mod it YOURSELF for your NGPC.

You try to make a light and sell it yourself. The only reason he can sell the Afterburner so cheaply was because there were enough GBA customers to cover his development and manufacturing costs.

You know, mass production? The NGPC has no such market. There is something around a million NGPCs in the world and 500,000 NGPs. Of that number, only a small fraction of people still regularily play and would be big enough enthusiasts for an Afterburner.

By the end of this year, MORE THAN 20 MILLION GBAs would have been sold and that will grow every year.

I think a TV output is needed. Like the device that attaches to the back of the GBA to allow you to play through your tv screen.

How would he lose money??? I don't understand whats the big deal, make a light and sell it?
Here's 2 hints as for the answer to your question...
1- Creating the concept of the device wouldn't be free.
2- Producing all the products wouldn't be free either...

To make it short, they'd have to be selling over XXX products to make this investment worth it... And make it up for the money spent on this project.
Whatever what this "XXX" amount may be, it's a sure thing they'd never reach it.

That reminds me, you know those displays that they often have in stores, where there is a little gameboy fixed in place for people to play the latest demonstration games, and outputting to a larger screen so that you can play the game on the gameboy and simultaneously enjoy the large pixellated graphics? By what principle does that thing work? Neo Geo Pocket Color needs something like that.

I dont know how many times I called nintendo asking them about that.

They have a special connector that goes into the thing and outputs it to the TV. From what they told me, it messes up the GBC after a while so they never tried to market it.

What would be even more awesome than a TV output, would be for someone to take the Super GB casing, and mod it so it has NGP stuff. But that would take even more money than the backlight would.

Ouch, it messes up the Gameboy Color after a while? I wonder why, voltage difference?

I would imagine the Neo Geo Pocket Color needs to drive some device, or need to have its output amplified through something, in any case something needs to power the television.

if they did consider making one during the peak of ngpc, then snk would've gone out of buisness even faster because people would be buying those instead of games.

..think about it!

less stuff bought= less money to help support snk.

these standards do not apply anymore as snk is gone. now it all goes to greedy merchants in hong kong.

I'm still confused, you mean to say if they made the afterburners, people will just be content with installing the afterburner onto the Neo Geo Pocket Color and playing around with the Horoscope, instead of buying the Neo Geo Pocket Color games?

I don't know why anyone would mutilate a poor pocket with an afterburner. It doesn't need one and never did, it has an excellent quality screen that's visible even in low light. The original GBA was crippled without an afterburner, the pocket is a superior design. Would you chisel a Stradivarius? No damn respect ...

no, I mean people bought very few games for the pocket as it was and if they had an afterburner out they probably would have bought even less. Because an after burner is like 40 bucks. People would never be content with the horoscope but as long as they has a good game or two they could wait a while on getting more

Let's put it this way. Anyone who buys and Afterburner for the NGPC is a gamer, pure and simple. It won't affect the sale of games. Besides, don't you think that if it did have an internal light that MORE people would buy the NGPC?

By the way CTH, we definitely need "cool style"....
