Anyone have experience with the Arcadeforge DIY Scaler kit?

I got this thing up and running, however the picture tears once in awhile, and occasionally rolls for a few seconds. (aren't these sync issues that this thing should fix?)

I also get artifacts and there's horizontal bands of blurry spots depending on how the image is scaled.

Does anyone know how to get the best settings out of this thing for an LCD TV?
