I got this game for a friend when I was in Japan last time, and I played it, and I was like, 'what the fuk?' and then I gave the game to him. He was like, collector and all that, so whether the game was playable didn't really matter, but now that I'm going to try and get this game as well as play it, I just have to ask, anyone know how to actually play this game?

I'm thinking its totally unplayable!
How far did you get?
Is it all just tables?
Are there any actual graphics at all in it?

Still! Looks good on the shelf I guess frown

I haven't gotten it yet. I'll get it sometime when I get back from Japan, or even buy it in Japan. It's obvious that knowledge of Japanese is a requisite spock

Yeah, but you know how with a lot of Japanese games, you can at least get to play the game, even if you dont understand all of it?
With Derby Champ I gave up!
Couldn't figure it at all. oh_no

Well, I kind of figured you had to finish placing your bets before any cool ass animation even materialized.

Ha! I ordered this game with the intentions of playing it and adding it to my library of NGPC games  Yeah, fucking right loco

I took one look at the "screenshots" on the back and put it up for sale w/o even popping it in. It looks wwwaaaayyyy to hard for someone with absolutly zero knowledge of Japanese or horse racing to even try to play.

Funny that you started this thread Bokmew, I thought about contacting you to see if you could help. But I guess you can't loco

Good luck :D

Well, I will help once I get the game. I know there are probably a lot of people out there who want to be able to play their Super Real Mahjong, their Densha de Go 2!, their Neo Derby Champ, their Spirit Photo Shop and not just watch them collect dust. I'll pick it up when I get back or when I'm in Japan.

I've got the game boy color version of densha de go 2 and it's pretty easy to pick up and play. I speak and read Japanese so it may be a bit easier for me, but I think anyone should be able to learn it fast just by trial and error. Never played the others you guys were talking about though.

Densha De Go is easy to work out. Just play around with it for five minutes to figure out what button does what, then all you have to do is drive it to the station. Obviously slow down when the speed limit comes up, go through the stations at a slow speed when required, dont hit the emergency brake or its game over! loco

Play-Asia had a clear enough scan for me to make out what it said in the back. Basically, Neo Derby Champ is supposed to be a simulator for picking the odds of the horses you want to bet, but it also factors in some other weird ass stuff like horoscopes or other irrelevant information. It even says on the box that it is designed to be a companion to the Stakes Winner on the Neo Geo, so think of Neo Derby Champ as horse betting simulator/calculator on the go. It makes sense, since gambling on horses seems pretty popular in Japan, and the target demographic of Neo Geo Pocket Color was the older crowd, so it made sense to release a simulator for the console. Actually, most portable console systems in Japan seem to have one. Gameboy had one, Wonderswan had one.
