Hi everyone,

I should be getting a candy cab within a month or so and I'm wondering how nice it actually is to play mvs on it.

I have an AES, quite a lot of nice games and a nice tv set. How much better would the candy be ?
I know it's a different experience, but I have never seen one in real life yet, so I was wondering how high I should set my expectations.

It's gonna cost me 800 euro, so it'd better be damn good :)

What are your experiences with a candy/other large screen cab ?

Nice. Very very nice. Small, but if you get one in tops condition, there's nothing cooler!

Candy cabs are very nice, but I really like to lounge when I play my Neo, so AES is perfect for me :D

I too was like you, never had seen a Candy in person. One day me and my sister were looking inside houses that were for sale and a guy had a mint condition Neo Candy 29 with a stack of games by it and a lit up marquee holder on the top. I was then amazed and I sat down in it and pushed the buttons etc. and it felt so nice and looked so awsome. The picture quality is tops when you play on a Candy, alot better then the picture you are getting out of your AES most likely unless you play it through RGB. I am getting a Candy this summer, after I saw the one guys Candy at the house I was looking at I knew I had to get one. Be careful if you buy one off of Arcade Infinity in the future since they will just select a random cab to send you, discolored or not. Ask for pics of the actuall cab you will be getting or even better, go down to their shop in LA and pick one out yourself if you live close enough. Alot of Candy's are discolored since they are white and most of them were sitting in areas with heavy smoking going on for years and years.

I like the joystick to the cab a lot better than my AES. And the prices to the games are way cheaper.

I love the Japanese style sticks on Neo-Geo Candy Cab's. The sticks are much better then the US sticks for me. I have big hands. The buttons also feel very nice.

Candy cabs are the best! I have two and enjoy playing them both very much. The only complaint I have are the balls on the joysticks. I plan on replacing the buttons and joysticks soon though.

Would you consider selling or trading one of your Neo Candy Cab's since you have two? You live right near me so I could come and pick it up. I would save alot on shipping this way and get to meet another NG member at the same time.

well, the candy cabs were originally made for little kids to play.. but their popularity had gotten pretty big with 'grown ups' so rather then calling them kiddie cabs they decided to call em 'sit-down cabs'(although i still like to think of them as kiddie cabs).

sure they're nice and all, but they kinda suck for tall people. I'm 6' 5" and I can play on normal upright cabs sitting down and reach everything fine... whereas on those candycabs it's like 'dear god! this thing's for midgets!'
wink

Are you sure about this? I always thought that the Candy cab was the standard Japanese cab... help

Edit: Or were you just being sarcastic?

I have seen one in person before. I sat down in one very briefly and it was small but not so small that I was uncomfortable. I am 6'3 and consider myself a pretty tall person. I guess it is all a matter of personal preference.

I prefer Big Red(Stand up) over any other cab. I can sit down and stand up and play and I'll fell comfortable.

Sorry, I am not selling at the moment. It was very difficult for me to find my cabinets in the condition they are in. Also I received such a good deal, I know I would not find anymore. Just go to Arcade Infinity and see what they have in stock. If you buy a motherboard also at the same time, you will get a generous discount. That is what I did when I bought both at the same time.

I keep hearing this complaint, but I'm 6'3" and I don't have trouble reaching stuff...I also have the biggest candy model there is..to each his own, but I'm just as comfortable playing a 25"-27" Red cab sitting down as I am playing my 27" candy. Oh yeah, candy style cabs are used for "hardcore" play in tourneys in japan, but, those aren't the little 90lbs ones that really LOOK like they're made for kids. Honestly, if you can find an arcade that has one, go try it out first. Not everyone likes them, but the monitor(s) is/are tops!

Also, big screens might be overkill for MVS. Some games look a little blocky, but if it REALLY bothers you you can just shrink the picture a bit...or you could just opt for the 25" or 19" candys... Being that you're in Europe, you might be okay with a scart cable and your AES...an MVS on an RGB monitor might not be much better than a RGB AES on a nice TV.

I was considering buying a candy cab from arcade infinity and wasn't sure if they came with a motherboard or not. I emailed them but haven't recieved a reply yet( but it is the weekend ). I was looking at the mvs 29 model. Is that big of a screen going to give the games a "blocky look"? Also what kind of discount are we talking about for the cabinet and motherboard combo? The only motherboard I saw on their website was a four slot for 178. I would be happy with a 2 slot. Thanks for the heads-up on the discoloration issue though. I wouldn't have even thought about that.
