At long last, I dug into my Neo Geo Pocket Color collection to play this game, the delay being when I first acquired this game, I didn't have the requisite Japanese level to understand the hints and dialogue, but now that I do, this is an amazing RPG adventure! One of the things that I hate about RPGs has always been random encounters because it pulls you right out of what you are doing, usually involves annoying load time or fade effects, but in this game you take pictures of ghosts when you want to reach out with your sixth sense and detect them, not when the game wants you to. The gameplay is so addictive, I haven't been able to stop playing it so far. Amazingly enough, you get to explore a scaled down version of Japan, travel from island to island, city to city by way of train, boat or plane, explore exotic locales at different times of the days to find different ghosts, even the famous Anime Ge Ge Ge Kitaro characters make appearances (since Mizuki Shigeru is the creator of the said series). SNK even found the time to go the extra mile and reproduce the dialects and speech mannerisms from the different locales ^_^

Ghosts also include their backstory accoding to ancient Japanese legends, I love it, SNK, marry me!

I didn't have the patience to learn the guitar, and I tried a few times.

I can play the guitar, but I can't compose for crap ^_^; I see Gamefaqs or anyone else hasn't had a faq for Mizuki Shigeru's Youkai Shasshin Kan. Way too busy right now to start work on one right now, since the gameplay is fairly linear, you explore all of Japan in the hunt for ghosts where they are frequently sighted. Maybe I can break it up somehow.

Reply to supergoose: I took Japanese courses for 2 years, the grammar is completely different from English or German, but I think it's pretty logical so it won't be too difficult to master it, it's the practice that's going to kill you. You need someone fairly committed to speak Japanese 24/7 with you, just like with any other languages, if you want to become good at writing and speaking Japanese. I'm tutoring Japanese right now and only now realizing that it's no walk in the park for non-native speakers, because I need to break that molded English thinking before an English speaker can grasp Japanese.

Man I really had a go at it!
Tried for a few weeks.
I can normally just pick up and do anything remotely creative, so I thought a musical instrument would be about the same.
How wrong was I?

As for Japanese!
I guess I'll wait for the Star Trek Universal Translator.

well ... maybe i can take some lessons later this year. :)
Or buy some of the tapes that are in the skymall catalogs on airplanes. :D . Haha, and if all else fails, just take espanol. im sure that isn't as hard. loco .

But I have been interested in learning Japanese, but have nowhere in the world I could get lessons of the sort, maybe when I eat at the local sushi bar a thousand times, and winning a trip to Tokyo, i will consider looking for a tutor. :D
