Now there's an idea! I think Shawn could run that company better than anyone who did or is running it now. Any other votes? :D

What nonsense! Can Shawn speak Japanese, does he have contact to Japanese Software Firms?

He only sells the games here in the USA, but making contracts with Japanese Software developers is something totally different!

He does make deals to order the stock for the new releases and to get them released in English, though... Not that you're totally wrong... Also, I don't think anyone said he'd be the only employee!

Daft though it may be, it sounds like someone with a little better business acumen better take things over...

If he did run SNK, that would be cool!
If he did, he should release the games weekly!

I noticed that the person who started this topic lives here in Memphis. Thanks for the local support bud! Although I would proudly wear those shoes, they are already actively worn by the appropriate owner.

Playmore (SNK) has taken giant steps to keep the neo alive, but it’s the bootlegs that are crippling sales. Encryption is easily broken, and quick money is the motivation behind the bootlegging and piracy.

Some may think that boots are just the unofficial MVS carts that occasionally pop up on eBay, but the threat is real enough to put potential profits in complete jeopardy. When KoF 2002 was released for MVS @ $1400, the boot was also available, but for only $300 and on that very same day! For every boot that is sold means one less sale for Playmore.

With this in mind, it’s impressive enough that the parent company has managed to keep the system alive this long. Mr. Kawasaki’s love for his company goes above and beyond the norm, considering that any other CEO/President/Owner/Founder would have certainly bailed years ago.

Concerning MVS to home conversions, those are obviously frowned upon as well. If a game is readily available as a conversion, then that makes it more difficult for Playmore to ever release the title on home format.

Although you don’t hear much about SNK NEOGEO USA, they are not just sitting in a corner twiddling their thumbs. Most people (consumers) are not aware of their presence here. Perhaps it is because SNK NEOGEO USA’s web site is down which gives some the false impression that their operations must be down.

SNK/Playmore is of course interested in protecting their investments and they are not ignoring the problem or turning a blind eye. The best we can do to help is by simply boycotting the bootleg products and let SNK/Playmore take care of the rest.

My only concern in regards to fakes is the crap that keeps popping up in strange form. I have a large amount of MVS carts, and the problem is what is fake and what is not. Emulation takes a huge toll, but the pirates and "data theives" are the ones who ruin it for us all.

Out of my MVS collection I have had trouble understanding what a boot is. There are so many loop holes that can determine what it is real and these coincide with the boots as well.
The EEPROM talk for example is not solid enough a foundation for me to consider some games boots.

I have a copy of Last Blade, and none of the chips are labeled with the native Toshibi chip signature, and I can fully guarantee they are boots. Thats the problem with some MVS carts, they look so plain you cannot tell a boot from a regular cart by just seeing the case. Maybe this led to the transluscent cases?
In the instance of knock off toys you see color displacencies, but whoever is manufacturing the bootleg cases to host these boards must have ridiculous connections.

The quality is so similar its depressing in a sense, and also is a negative aspect of MVS collecting/gaming.
I have a Garou MOTW labeled 000173, this is my only cart with graphical in game issues, sometimes it starts fine, but most of the time the whole screen is fluttered. Its literally eaten by orange garble. This is probably due to the fact the cart has four or so EEP's inside. One must be degenerating due to the light. (Big Bear in regards to the sun issue as my basis)

There are so many perspectives and questions to be answered. I wish there was a bootleg glossary, since in thought many cannot tell the difference. I sure as hell could not originally, and some stuff even baffles me regarding fakes.

The older boots that circulate on the secondary market are not the main concern. Bootleggers are not interested in pirating KoF 99’s at this point in time, their pirating titles such as KoF ‘02 which directly impact SNK’s new release sales (the primary market).

The same pirating cycle existed for KoF ’01, RotD, & MS4, and will most likely continue until radical changes, aggressive actions, or effective preventive measures are established. Unfortunately, a change of hardware or encryption will not end piracy, only postpone it.

Even companies such as Microsoft and Sony will inevitably battle software pirates in order to protect their future online gaming networks from rampant hacking, game cheating programs, and mod chips.

Your intentions are admirable, but I seriously doubt you would still have the same love for your hobby as the owner of the company rather than simply as a collector and retailer.

I'm backing you up on this one. As an MVS collector/gamer I'd like to see a bootleg glossary. In the end, I gave up caring if a game was a boot or not...just too difficult to tell sometimes.
