I'm confused....

What is the difference between a UK game and a US game?? (inserts, case, etc.)

Take MOTM, i've seen one version where it has a green background, and another one with a plain whit background...the question is which one is the US version and which one is the UK version??

BTW, does UK games always come in clam case???

I think that the US versions come in a cardboard box instead of the nice plastic Clam case.
I think that all the UK games come in the clam case.......Clam cases are cool!!!

I dont know the difference with the Asian games, I guess that the instruction manual will be in Japanese and thats about it....I think you can set the language on the games to english, you just wont be able to read the instruction manuals......

Hope this helps..

Earlier Euro games (up to samsho2 - NEOP0030) have the SNK UK office address printed on the back, where as the Asian copies have the address of the Japanese office.

However, from turf masters onwards the Euro copies only have the Japanese Address...

I have Asian SS2, and a Euro SS2, the spines, manuals and carts are identical, and both are clam cased. But the front and back covers are completley different.

I think to start with the box art was re-designed for the European releases, but after samsho 2 they seem to have stopped doing this.

Games later than samsho2 released in the european teritory also lacked the italian and german manuals, as well as translations on the box.

There are also variants on some games.
There are two euro versions of SS2, one with the MOTM style cover, and one with the "faces" cover.
Also some Euro games come in both the single manual/lan english version, and the mutli man/lan versions.
US cardboard boxes have a nice front opening box, with a flap cover, but the only Japanese ones Ive seen come in game boy stlye top opening boxes.

I personally dont think its worth collecting the cover variants that are just man/lan. But the 2 Sam-Sho covers are both nice!

Also, with the early b/w games both English and Japanese versions were available in the UK, all in clamshell cases.

On top of that, to solve some of the Euro/Asian confusion, keep in mind that the overall packaging for the Euro/Asian versions of the games is often very similar. The Asian territory isn't really used as a seperate region too much for videogames anymore but for the sake of the NGP/NGPC the territories were:

Asia
Europe
Japan
North America

"Asia" basically meant a version for English speaking people in Hong Kong when the territory was still one that warranted a completely seperate publication of the game. That's why, say, my "Asian" Card Fighters Clash 1 has the game in English and the European style rating systems on the back of the clamshell insert. It comes with a pink sheet of paper on the inside with the addresses and phone numbers for all of SNK's offices as well (all are defunct now though :p ). So basically this method allows them to save money on having multi-territory releases but still HAVE multi-territory releases.

So in general, it wouldn't surprise me if on the outside the Euro and Asian releases of the same game look identical, with only some of the internal materials to tell them apart. The only ones that are blatantly easy to discern are the Japanese and US ones because of the extremely different boxes.

The JPN cardboard boxes aren't so great as Metal Slug said though. They're oversized and just poorly designed IMO. The US cardboard boxes are REALLY nice and original though and actually pretty durable. Great design on all of them too (you get that silver top boarder that says Neo Geo Pocket Color on it etc.).

BTW, I THINK (but I'm not positive) Metal Slug: First Mission, SS!2 and maybe one other game were released in the clamshell I THE US. I forget where I heard this though so if I find anything I'll post here ASAP.

Witht he GP32 and the GBA, and posting in this thread now, I'm actually REALLY into handheld systems and games again. I'm glad I browsed here. I even started practicing some MotM comboes again. :D

I think that may have been Puzzle Bobble/Bust a Move.

I have these two variants of samsho2.

I disagree that they are both euro, I think the 'faces' version is Asian. I never saw this variant for sale in the UK when the NGPC was around.

The faces version has SNK's Jap office address on the back, and is lacking German and Italian, whilst the other has an address in London, with German and Italian translations.

How are you able to confirm that both versions are Euro?

I don't know about confirmation one way or the other, but I think the only real way to differentiate them is, as you said, the lack/presence of multi-Euro languages on the back of the packaging as I'm pretty sure the carts themselves are identical in for Euro+Asian release. If we get enough people with both Asian and Euro versions of games together we can probably figure out a more consistent way to know which is which.

Jepp i got the faces version but its complete in english. Anyway Euroversions often got differnt languiges on box and in the manual. But US and Asian dont have this.
Maybee i got the differnt art for Samsho 2 too.
I also know of Puzzle bobble that have differnt artwork in US because in US its known under Bust a move.
@ Ray i will send u the pics later when i finished burning ;) could last 20 mins.
