I thought I would ask here as this forum seems to be ahead of the curve when it comes to mods.

Is there a good resource on how to build a Jamma adapter for a Sega Genesis? I have the next week off of work and would really like to start a new project.

Ask Robivy64 on Sega-16 or Shmups (I think he posts there), he's done some pretty spiffy Jamma Genesis systems.

There's an old thread of mine sitting around here somewhere with some questions about hooking up the video where it doesn't suck. You'll probably also need a couple of donor controllers to hook up the joysticks.

Thanks, every post I have found/read has been bits and pieces. I know a few guys on KLOV who have done hacked versions and may check in with them. I think the main issue is going to be video synching.

A friend of mine has a cabinet Disney made back in the day and I was hoping to build something similar this weekend. Sans the gargoyle artwork.

One easy step.

Go and buy yourself one of these...

Then wire it up to a Jamma Fingerboard along with the rest of the loom and hey presto ANY RGB device in your cabinet.

Else you could just make your cables just for the Megadrive...

Pad Hacks
Unforunately you cannot take the output from the control port like the Neo as the system uses an encoder.
You will have to pad hack to get the buttons to the Jamma edge connector.

This one is definitely worth a read...

Good luck, sounds like a fun project.

Use Genesis model 1 as it has audio amp built in.

Pull video from spot in this picture.

Not in picture, but I've since added lm1881 sync cleaner, use composite video as input for this circuit. I followed gamesx circuit for this. without this my Neo 29 cabinet would work great with this Genesis-jamma console, but Astro City would not. I would just add it as its so few parts.

Buy jammaboard jb-1, here:

wire your 7805 inside Genesis to jamma power supply via fuse (1.5a) and perhaps a new on/off switch. I use a Omron NC relay as well so I can reset using jamma test button or select button on MVS cab. This helps to switch games using the Everdrive cart. I added diode for suppression as well.

dremel opening and use PCB feet with hot glue and screws to secure.

install jammaboard on left side of Genesis.

There is enough room inside Genesis for controllers, wire buttons/d-pad to jb-1 and wire controller output to Genesis console. Might have to dremel controllers to make them smaller, or dremel cart slot posts to provide room.
