i've been thinking about getting either a capcom CPS or CPS2 cab, something like Street Fighter 2 (CPS) or X-Men vs Street Fighter (CPS2). i have a few questions before i buy.

1) how hard is it to throw a CPS2 mainboard into a CPS cabinet, or vise versa? is the wiring the same? if not, what has to be done to change the wiring?
2) can i throw another jamma+ game into the cps or cps2 wired cab? I'm thinking something like a Mortal Kombat or Killer Instinct board.

Thanks for your help!

Those games should all work fine in any of those cabinets. The only difference is the JAMMA+ connector on the actually PCB. They're all different.

i think i'm set on purchasing the cps2 cabinet. how difficult is it to modify the cab so it will accept a cps1 motherboard or a mortal kombat motherboard?

It's pretty easy, just add a molex connector on the kick harness so you can easily switch them for each game. Example here:

yeah, most of the kick harnesses can be found on ebay easily as well, most of them come with a molex for easy setup.

so all of these jamma+ games use the standard jamma harness for the main operation and have just one extra "kick" harness for the extra buttons? if this is the case, cps1, cps2, mk, ki, etc.. all use the same jamma plug and just require different "extra button" harnesses.

i'm starting to understand this stuff! thanks for the help =]

Yup.

I think that JAMMA+ can also refer to games that have 3 or more players. Even if the players only use 2 or 3 buttons. Like TMNT, NBA Jam, Captain America, etc... You just need that extra harness to be able to use the additional players.

Anything that has more features than standard Jamma (mono sound, two players with one 4-switch joy and up to three buttons each) is Jamma+. For example, Ikari warriors has all those features but in addition it also uses rotary switches and is therefore considered Jamma+.

It's a small JAMMA cab. When I was in Indonesia, if the games weren't on huge 50" screens, they were in those little cabs. Not sure what the specific name is though. Are those the "candy cabs" that I hear people refering to? I'd love to have one for my place because they're small.
