new guys dumb questions

I'm new to the neo geo scene and I have some questions thatI need answered. First I heard that japanese carts will play in english in a us system. Is this true? What about japanese only carts like metal slug 3 ( blessed be thy name)? I also heard that euro carts play in letterbox mode, if so why? Does it screw up the game or can it be lived with? BTW this is easily one of the best sites I have found on the net so far. thank you.

Any game in an English system will display in English, any game in a Japanese system will display in Japanese with no censorship.

Euro carts play just like any other carts, US or Japanese. PAL Neo Systems (the kind of Systems used in Europe), will display the picture in letterbox if used on a US television. We use the NTSC signal in the US, as does Japan. Europe uses PAL.
