I'd like to get the ball rolling on a meetup at Philly's last functioning arcade, University Pinball at UPenn. Prelimary date is Saturday August 13 at 7p. I'm not sure if they'll have an MVS then or even if they have one now. What I am pretty sure of is that they'll have a good selection of the latest fighters and shooters, along with a smattering of old school titles, along with pinball, skee-ball, air hockey and the like.

I'm not sure if I can make this; since it's the second saturday of the month, I may be in NJ for Body Shop. Also, last time I was at UP I didn't see any MVS cabs at all. I'll probably be there tomorrow hanging out watching the tournaments, so I'll double check then on what's currently setup.

Btw, how was White Castle's last weekend?

A smaller crowd, but awesome as usual. I actually beat WC at Puzzle Bobble before he found his stride and whooped me. Someday I'll have a basement to rival his.

Alright, report on what's at UP at the moment. As of tonight, I saw there's the following:

4x Super Street Fighter IV AE single person cabs linked together
3x Marvel vs Capcom 2
1x Street Fighter III 3rd Strike
2x makeshift cabs with PS3's in them; one running Marvel vs Capcom 3, and one running Mortal Kombat (2011). A quarter for 3 mins.
1x Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection
4x Fast & the Furious Drift cockpit cabs - linked
2x Fast & the Furious Super Cars - linked
2x Super Bikes 2 - linked
4x Pinball machines (don't remember which ones they were)
5x light gun games (House of the Dead 2, Time Crisis Razing Storm, Terminator Salvation, and I forget the other two
1 Air hockey table
and a small assortment of other misc. ticket earning games (basketball free throw, quarter dropping, etc).

There are NO Neo Geo/SNK games there nor any shoot-em-ups.

Thanks for this. Even with the lack of NG stuff, I still think it would be a fun time.

Last time I was there, they had Family Guy Pinball (I know I'm forgetting the others...it was the only one I played) and the other light gun game was Ghost Squad.

I'm not sure if I'll be in the area at the date you suggested. There are a ton of people taking vacations this month and I really want to wait until that's blown over before I head up there again. It probably will be in Aug-Sep, though.

Bump for an approaching meetup. Don't make me game alone, because you know I will ;)

I can't make it unfortunately, but I can say I think the fall and spring are the best times to schedule/plan meetups it seems. I'm the most busy in the summer, but I also know people take vacations, and also it can be so hot people don't want to do anything. The winter is tough because of the weather and the holidays, but when it comes to the spring and fall it works out well for people like Jon who is willing to travel far for a get together and he doesn't have to worry about other's vacations.

I'm going to The Pitt for the PAPA pinball tournament from the 11th to the 14th. I know it's a haul from Philly but it's an amazing place with over 400 pinball machines and a few classic arcade games sprinkled in for good mix.

Since it looks like no one can make it, should we postpone until September?

University Pinball is a shell of it's former self. Totally depressing. We would be better off going to Arnold's Family Fun Center in Oaks, or renting out TNT Amusements.

I just can't believe how crummy UP's selection has gotten. It used to be the place full of rad. Now it just makes me sad.

Is Arnold's any good?

Gamester 81 on Youtube did a walkthrough video and I agree, too many redemption games. A couple of good pins and Arcade Edition, but nothing else to write home about. Todd from TNT seems like a cool dude. He's got Neo stuff listed on his site, so I wouldn't be surprised if he had an MVS. Arnold's looks like a typical family fun center, can't tell that much from their site because it's like everybody else's.

Another place you guys might want to check out is The Pinball Gallery in Downigtown. I met the owner Bill at a pinball tournament and he's a really nice guy. He does parties and even has an MVS. I'd stop by on my way to PAPA, but it's a long way to the Pitt from Long Island.

As I said before, I'll be there all weekend. It's well worth checking out to see a place filled with over 400 different pinball machines. Just sucks the drive is so goddamn long and the flights are too expensive.

Let's consider this event postponed for now since no one's down for U.P.

Todd is, in fact, a cool dude. I doubt he'd let us do it for free, but I bet we could have a meetup there. I can email him and ask what MVS he has currently and what he'd charge.

I'd really like to organize something before White Castle's annual November meetup. Sept looks good for me, and I assume most of you since summer vacations over, etc.

Emailed Todd at TNT. He said he has a 19" 2-slot (prob goldie) and a 25" 4-slot. Each has a multicart. Advertised rate is $89/hr (games only, no food). We might be able to talk him down a bit. He does have lots of other games/pins/etc. They'd be set for free play. Thoughts?
