Buttons not working!

I've got an old-school red american cabinet with a 2-slot board in it right now. The last couple days I've been noticing that the BCD buttons on the single-player side are only working sporadically. I've jiggled the plugs and such and it didn't seem to make a difference. They usually work if I swing the console open though, which makes me think I've got some broken wiring in there somewhere.

The wiring in this thing looks like it's been there quite a while, I'm wondering if getting a new harness and replacing it all would be worthwhile, and specifically where would I get the appropriate hardware?

Happ Controls has this for $18: <a href="http://www.happcontrols.com/powersupplies/80510000.htm" target="_blank">http://www.happcontrols.com/powersupplies/80510000.htm</a>

you could simply remove the button wiring and add fresh wires, it's easy enough to do, with some minimal soldering.. you just replace the wires one by one. for the buttons and sticks, any wire will do.

Everything's currently wound around and bundled together with ties and tape, and as mentioned it all looks pretty old in general (I just got the cabinet a few months ago and don't know its history)... so my thinking was while I'm pulling it all apart I may as well replace the wiring wholesale and not have to worry about it for another long while.

If an appropriate harness isn't readily available though I'll definitely just repair the wires that seem bad...

If it is three buttons are going wrong at the same time, it sounds like it might just be just the earth wire that runs to them that could have a fault. I would just try replacing that at first, by just making new earth cable leading off the working A button. Or if you just wish to see if that is all that is wrong, just take the earth wire off the A button and put it on to one of the faulty ones and see if that fixes the problem.

Try re-crimping the common/ground spade sockets on the switches first (why not do all of them for that matter). London to a Brick that will fix the problem

Often times it is just a loose Ground wire. Check that first.

Depending on how your cab is wired, you have a couple of options. On most of the dedicated cabs, there are Molex connectors that connect the Jamma harness to the control panel. You could try just doing the control panel part, and then if that does not fix your problem, move on to the full Jamma harness.

You can get all the wiring and connectors from <a href="http://personal.msy.bellsouth.net/msy/b/o/bob147/#top" target="_blank">Bob Roberts</a>

Hope that helps
