I just got one of those action replay carts that can bust through region lock for my Saturn. What shooters do you like to play on the Saturn? I didn't realize this console was so shmup heavy in Japan.

Strikers 1945
Sengoku Blade

Layer Section/Galactic Attack

Darius Gaiden

Both are dirt cheap, and totally rad.

Many of my favorite JP exclusives have already been mentioned above.

No one has mentioned the Thunder Force Gold Packs...

..and there is Thunder Force V, not the greatest but still good none the less.

The only others that have not been mentioned that are worth getting are Sonic Wings, Soukyugurentai, Donpachi and DoDonpachi

But your 1st purchase definitely has to be Radiant Silvergun. Well worth the money, an absolutely beautiful game.

I for one don't think Radiant Silver Gun is worth the price tag, I own it and like it but not for 200+ USD.

I think all the good games have been mentioned, all I can think besides them is

Tengoku Shooting Paradise, I think that's the name, once I get home I'll remember. You can also play most of this games in MAME and decide what you'd like to spend your money on. A piece of advice, stay away from ebay buy it now wolfs, the prices are usually retarded overpriced.

I know I said 'well worth the money' and I still think it is an awesome shooter. But if you have to pay $200+ then yes, there are plently of other shooters that I would get first. I know it had gone up alot in price but I didn't realise it had shot up that much.

I was lucky and managed to pick mine up for about $80 soon after it came out. I feel for you guys getting into the saturn now... but good that you have as it is one of the best consoles for shooters.

80$ is a steal for this title - consider yourself very, very lucky!
If you ever think about selling it, i'll give you 90$. :D

The price of about 200$ has been pretty constant for a mint copy during the last years. I don't think that Radiant Silvergun is that rare, but this price has just been somehow accepted by the market.

To me it's an outstanding game, like so many other titles by Treasure.

Hey thanks Hoop, i'm really tempted with your very generous offer but I will be keeping my copy.

Yeah, I was lucky. I am sure got my copy in about 1999 and palyed it non stop for ages. Having the use of all of your weapons all the timedoe make a refreshing change from usual shooters. It does make you think alot more... which weapon is right for which type of enemy.

Havn't played it for ages, so I am going to have to dig it out this weekend. Fingers crossed my save game still loads with near levelled up weapons.

I recommend all the above. And Hoop, if I ever need to unload my RS I'll contact you. $90 would be a steal for both of us.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll go rob a bank and then start picking up some of these titles. What about Steam Hearts? Is it shit or just not mentioned yet?

I'll steer clear of Steam Hearts then. I found Galactic Attack and Darius Gaiden for next to nothing. I'm hoping the other games in these lists are even half as fun as these two are. I'm glad I picked up a Saturn on a whim!

In my mind it was the peak of import gaming.

Yeah, man! Glad they are still inexpensive...I was guessing (based on personal USA experience) when I said they were cheep.

Tate mode Galactic Attack=100% win.

Welcome to the club.

Layer Section, despite being the cheapest, is easily one of the best for the system. In my top 5, at least.

You are right, a top shooter. Got mine in Japan for 700Yen ($8)
The second one is really worth a play two.

Seconded! In terms of non exclusives I'd throw in Soukyugurentai and Dodonpachi. With those six you'll be set for awhile.
