I'm playing the hell out of my Espgaluda 2 board and I'm loving it. The music, the artwork, the game play. Its all amazing. I've only played Espgaluda 1 and 2 and deathsmiles. I loved all three of those games. I've seen videos for MMP and Pink sweets. Those don't look as fun to me and don't think I could get into them. i saw a video for Akai Katana and it looked like utter crap.

So my question is, are there any vertical shooters that are similar to Espgaluda, or hori games that are like deathsmiles? And by similar I mean interesting artwork, great music and fun game play.

I will second Mushihimesama Futari. The Black Label version is great if you can find one.

I Cosign w/ the above STG brothers: mushihimesama futari. Soooooo much fun. It is one of the only games I kept for 360.

If I were in a position to own a cab, mushi would be the 1st kit I track down.

As far as horis go; don't like them too much. progear no arashi floats my boat tho.

Have you tried ESP ra de?

mushihimesama futari... looks sweet!! It has cool artwork and music just like espgaluda does. I tracked down a kit last night....700 dollars. :crying: looks like I'm going to start a savings account for it.

ESP.ra.de looks fun as hell too! That board looks to be going for about 200-300 so that might be the next board I get.

In case you own a PSP, I'd wholeheartidly recommend you Zero Cho Aniki: challenging, full of unique visuals and tons, tons of fun. I wouldn't miss it if I were you...

I think he means PCBs for his new candy cab.

Esp.ra.de. is a good one. The CPS2 vertical STGs are great (19xx, Dimahoo) and you can't go wrong with Raizing/8ing games (Armed Police Batrider).

Then, I'd go for a Giga Wing PCB if you like your shooters a bit on the easy side (prolly the only arcade shooter I've ever 1CC'ed :( ), or any Cave danmaku of your choice (Esp. Ra. De is one of my faves, along with Guwange and Dangun Feveron/ Fever S.O.S.).

Oh, and if you are used to Cave-styled shmups, I'd avoid Raizing and Psikyo vertical shooters like the plague (save, perhaps, Batrider and Tengai). Their vision is so different in almost every aspect to Cave's that I can hardly bear them...

For those of you that recommended Mushihemisama Futari and Espgaluda 2 thanks. I have had the first of both of those games for my J PS2 forever and played them quite a bit, but I bit the bullet and bought these 2 on 360 since they are region free and they came in tonight. Good purchases. This may seem like a silly question, but is live busting people over playing imports that are region free? I just got this 360 to replace one that died almost a year ago so I am kind of curious if I need to play these offline and under a different gamer tag or if that would even make a difference anyway.

Live only bans the console, not the GT.

Region free is a-ok for live...get yourself up on the leaderboards!

Mushi Black Label is avail on US xbl marketplace, & totally worth it.

Sorry to hijack this thread but was wondering if vertical shooters like

Aero fighters 2 requires you to turn your monitor on the side?

Can't really start a new thread and tried to do a search and couldn't find anything useful.

What do you mean by required? The majority of vertical shooters have an option to tate (turn your monitor on its side) but you can still play normally without any screen adjustments. Your monitor will display the games dimensions as they should be and any extra space will usually be black or have a wallpaper of some kind.

Pork , Pink Sweets and Ibara are not typical Cave games and are made by Shinobu Yagawa from former Raizing fame , if you don't like them you probably won't enjoy Raizings Batrider or Garegga from the same guy .
Raizing games have a nasty rank system , use medal chaning for score and ships have a big hitbox .
All other Cave games have large highly visible bullets in crazy patterns and ships/caracters with very small hit-boxes which allow you to steer trough almost impossible bullet patterns .
My personal favorite is the original Mushihimesama on Maniac or Ultra .
