The SPI hardware uses a non-standard sync which will fuxx0r most consumer TVs, especially the 'high end' ones which are wound just a little too tight for their own good.

Where most PCBs and VCRs and DVDs run at 60Hz (or very close to it) the SPI runs at 54Hz IIRC.

This is also a problem for people using LCD monitors with an upscan unit, the LCD monitor isn't as tolerant in many cases as a tube would be.

So, are you using RGB or S-video to input the video signal to your t.v. ? eye eye

Perahps you need to use an other RGB -> S-video converter?

Wow...I'm glad this subject came up. I've been looking for a Viper Phase 1 cart and SPI board combo for quite some time. Are these playable on ANY types of NTSC TV's via a Supergun, or am I screwed?

If you have an XRGB-* and a VGA monitor you'll probably be fine. Since it's a non-standard spec you won't find support for it listed in any manufacturer's spec sheet, you're gonna have to just try it and see, or ask around.

Note that the XRGB units do not mess with the sync rate. If you put 54Hz in you'll get 54Hz out.
