Yeah, it's almost that time of year again. I know a few of you guys hit the Anthology tournaments I held at last year at TempleCon 2010 in Warwick RI, and I'm happy to announce that we're bringing the NeoGeo events back to the convention this year with a new Garou tourney on Sunday, as well as adding a fourth cab to the lineup.

Here's what we have planned. Prizes are TBA, but we should have some some decent stuff yet again, and possibly sponsorship from SNK again as well. There was surprisingly great turnout last year, and it would be awesome if we topped it.

For more info on the convention, hit www.templecon.org

For extended info on the Neo events specifically and photos from last year, hit this link.

TempleCon King of Fighters Anthology Tournament II
Ready for the second annual King of Fighters anthology tournament at TempleCon? This year we have four dedicated Neo Geo Arcade Cabinets, and will be holding yet another tournament to find out who stands at the top of the KOF pile. will includes original SNK cartridges of King of Fighters 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003.

Players will be bracketed and paired off in a double elimination tournament using the standard match structure of Best out of Three games. Winners will progress through the winners bracket, and losers will progress through the losers bracket or be eliminated. Three matches will take place at one time. Since this is an Anthology format tournament, there is special rule in effect. The winner with the best record in their previous match in comparison to their opponent will be allowed to dictate which version of the game to compete in in their next match, from the currently unchosen titles. The first bracket of the tournament will feature solely King of Fighters '94.

Strength of record in the previous round will determine a player's priority in choosing titles. In the case of a record tie, the winning player who completed their match in the quickest elapsed time will be given priority. A player MAY NOT choose to play the same title twice during the entire event, but may be forced to play the same title by another player's choice, or deferred randomization. A player may defer his or her game choice to his or her opponent, or allow the choice to be randomized.

That SS tourney sounds awesome. I wish I could attend but I am moving around the time of your event. If this was a month later I might have bought a bus ticket just to check this out.

KoF. The other guy was using King in 03. He spammed her double projectile and psyched me out.

Too bad. I really wish I could have seen all these Neo tourneys go down, especially the SS one.

This is the only photo of mine that came out OK. Maybe Xionicist has some better ones though.

So, you actually won the tournament? Please forgive me for what I'm about to say, if I recall it clear enough you're not much of a fighting gamer (your own words), how did you manage to crush the competition?

I didn't win; I got second place.

Hmm, don't recall saying that. When we were hanging out I think I said I was new to sticks and had only made that transition since HD Remix came out. I haven't been playing fighters forever, but long enough - maybe 7 or 8 years. So probably less time than most people on here, but longer than people just getting into SFIV or MVC3 or whatever. At the meetup in 09 I won 14+ rounds of Alpha 3 in a row, so I'm not a scrub or anything - just not top tiere.

I'm not that good at KoF in comparison to SF, but the competition wasn't feirce. I mean, I defintely had to know what I was doing or I would have lost. Like I don't know any 15+ hit combos, but I can hold my own. The other guys just couldn't handle rush downs. I think that's how I beat most of the other guys. There were a few that knew what was up. For them, I had to be careful and string pokes into DMs and only use SDMs when I knew they'd connect.
