Hi. I'd be very grateful for any help and advice.

I recently got a metal slug X aes cart and although it play fine, whenever you turn the cart upside down you can hear the insides move about slightly. I compared it with a Garou cart and the same thing happens only not quite as much. A KOF98 cart was slighlty worse than the garou cart for this, but not quite as bad as the slug cart.

Is this just a natural feature of the catridges, or does it indicate some problem? I remember the super famicom cartridges always being totally secure.

Thanks very much
JDH

Your carts are just fine. You'll grow to love the rattle as the years go by wink

Sometimes there just loose like that, and sometimes its just the screws not being tight enough.

There are no screws to fasten home carts together, they snap together. They just rattle. Out of all of my 14 games; only one does not rattle and that is The Last Blade.

When you hear that rattling around in your homecarts its because the snap is broken off.

That is usually caused by someone opening up the cart.

I dont know what else could cause the snap to break off.

Anyways I just open it up and throw away the broken snap piece. It is very easy to open the cart up without damaging the cart or sticker.

But that decision is your choice, personally I cant stand any of my games to have them sounding like that. annoyed

oh, that sounds a bit worrying. I'm not brave enough to open any of my carts though so I'll just have to live with it.

Totally spot on. I recently had a rattling cart, I opened it up and found the snap broken off. I glued it back on and then put it back together. I had to be very careful screwing it in again!

So you mean to tell me that 16 out of 17 of the games I've owned, someone has opened? Even the games I've bought brand new?

Hmmm. well i dunno. I've got 7 JPN AES carts ranging from nam '75 to garou and they all rattle to some degree. Can anyone else shed any light on this? Hopefully I'll receive a brand new SS2 tomorrow, so it will be interesting to see how this compares.

this is a perfectly normal thing.

Rattling of a broken snap would sound like some tiny loose thing stuck inside the casing.

The boards themselves do rattle a bit when the cart is moved upside down.

That's because they're not glued or screwed. They're just held by a nifty system :)

If anyone's carts rattle, THEY ARE BROKEN. I'm sorry, but its true. Now, mail them all to me. PM me for my shipping address, and... no problem, its the least I could do.

Hello - I don't think that the carts so much "rattle", but they move around ever so slightly. Nearly all (over 60) of my AES carts move a bit when shaken. I also have some that are tight as drums. It has NEVER affected my ability to play them :)
