Just bought a candy cab, ?'s on mvs boards (and ROTD on 2 slots?)

Hi, I just got a Japanese candy cab that originally came with a 4 slot board but the guy sold it. Anyway, he told me all I need is an mvs board to hook up to it and everything else is there and ready to go. I was looking on hardmvs.com I noticed the harness type on 1 slots is jamma while 2+ boards is MVS. I'm probably going to just go with a 2 slot in it but if I try it out with a 1 slot will it work? And if/when I get a 2 slot should I just be able to connect some stuff and it'll be ready to go?
I was also wondering the status of ROTD on 2 slots, any problems on these?
Can you tell I'm a newbie at this? Thanks!

Hi! I was the same as you just a couple of weeks ago. n00bie and confused.

Now go and read the arcade primer @ <a href="http://www.gamesx.com" target="_blank">www.gamesx.com</a> (to the left, under "Arcade Machines"). It's a good starting point.
