Have any one of you ever consolized a NEO-MVH MV2B .

Here is a picture of the one I have:

<a href="http://atlas.imagemagician.com/images/bulletnyourass/DCP_0051.JPG" target="_blank">http://atlas.imagemagician.com/images/bulletnyourass/DCP_0051.JPG</a>

It has 2 ports on the left side of the 2-Slot that are for External Memory Card Reader. If you need more pics I can remove the metal cover and take more. I was wondering if either of you have any pictures of consolizing one of these (step-by-step) if possible. Also, what tools will I need for a project like this?

I am what you call "electronically ignorant" and soldering inept. I would need something like the SGR setup but for my board if there are any differences from the ones pictured. Also, I want to paint the cover once it's finished. Whats the best type of primer and paint to use?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

P.S. If this ends up looking like it's going to be too risky for me to do. I would be willing to hire wink Broken wink since he is here in the States; or wink Supergoose wink . Either way, I am going to start this project on the 15th (about 2 weeks).

Thanks in advance to all who provide help on this subject.

Phillip

I'm just finishing up my 2-slot, same model as yours (mem card, etc..)

Honestly, the soldering doesn't take long, about 20 minutes if you are the overly cautions type. The JROK comes with wire and connectors, so you only solder to the JAMMA pins (really big) or the contacts (not that small).

The biggest pain for me was the cover. You have to first decide where you want your switches, output jacks, and buttons (test, etc. I didn't make any holes for these since I'll be getting a UNIBIOS). Then you have to cut through that damn thing. That's the most time consuming part of the project.

I'm still not sure what the final color will be, though.

Good luck on that. I'm sure there are lots of people who were motivated by Supergoose's and Broken's consolized little babies that can give even more pointers.....

CarlDMC,

Thanks for the info. That is the one thing I am worried about. I want to make sure I have the right tools for cutting the metal cover. I don't want to make it look like crap. Hopefully, someone will be able to tell me which tools to use. If worst comes to worst, I'll by a SuperNova since I work less than a 15 minute drive from MASSYSTEMS. I wanted to avoid buying one of those because the unit is so DAMN BIG!

ok, let me give you one advice :
DON'T use your 2slot for your first project. you'll most definitely regret it. i know, i did. :(

get yourself a jrok rgb encoder, a nice plastic case, a jamma connector, 15 pin d-sub plugs for the joyports ... and start with a simple supergun. that way, you'll learn, how it works and you'll also be able to improve your soldering skills.

tools?
hmmm ... mine are pretty primitive, actually.

you'll need at least something for drilling holes, a soldering iron, some different pliers and files and maybe a saw.

and you'll also need something like this :

<img src="https://www.mediasales.de/bilder/gross/593068.jpg" alt=" - " />

it's a 'blechschälbohrer'.
sorry, but don't know, what it's called in english.

as for the step by step guide :
there is no such thing. you just have to make your own gun at first to figure out, how it works. you'll also have to be a little creative.

there are lots of pages about making superguns or maks out there. just use google and you'll find more than enough info.

the pinout of the jamma edge can be found at <a href="http://www.hardmvs.com" target="_blank">www.hardmvs.com</a> and the pinout of the neo's joyports can be found at <a href="http://www.gamesx.com" target="_blank">www.gamesx.com</a> .
you'll only have to compare both pinouts. no big deal. (and jey, you shou'l connect pin4 AND pin9 of the joyports to pin25 or pin c of the jamma edge.

last advices :
- get yourself a uni-bios and DON'T mount any ugly buttons to you mvs board
- take your time
- have a look at the sgr
- DON'T drill any holes for mounting the rgb encoder. just use hot glue or some kind of 'sticky' (or was adhesive the right word?) velcro stuff.
- i wouldn't mount an internal (open frame) power supply. i still prefer the <a href="http://www.jameco.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=91&prrfnbr=354713&cgrfnbr=780&ctgys=503;528;780;" target="_blank">sc200</a>
- try to only use the best parts for your consolized mvs board. it'll be worth it.

edit : typos. meh ... it's 1:25am ...

Supergoose79,

Thanks, I will take your advice and make a supergun instead. I definitely don't want to mess up my 2-slot. Thanks for taking the time to type all of that info for me. I am going to pickup some soldering tools. Tiptonium gave me some help on what soldering equipment I will need. I will keep you guys posted once I get started on this project. It is going to probably take awhile because I have NEVER made anything electronic in my life so I know I'll be overly cautious. :D

Yeah thats what i am doing as well. I was going to consolize my 2 slot but after some consideration i decided to make a supergun. Its going to be big and bulky but its worth not screwing up my 2 slot. I do plan to consolize my 2 slot soon - just when i have more money and more importantly time and experience. I would have my gun fisnished but i'm waiting on the enclosure to arrive, i have the other parts and my custom controller done! Waiting sucks but patience it a virtue i suppose.

Lagduf,

That sounds pretty cool. I am looking to make something kind of small. I was actually thinking about using one of the beat up AES cases I have. I figure once I get some decent skills at assembling a Supergun, I'll make a Supergun using a MINT Snap-Lock Case and then make a Insert for the Supergun using the Template I downloaded. Something similar to this one:

I agree 100% with supergoose on his suggestions.

The metal shell on the multislot boards is very tough to drill through if you don't have the proper tools or at least some bits designed to cut through that kind of material.

The beauty of building a small SuperGun, is that if you mess up on cutting the case, you are only out a couple dollars for a new one. Where as the shell on a 2 slot is a different story.

Thats a really cool idea putting a supergun inside of snap-lock case or even a shock box case. A supergun insert would be fantastic. If you made one i might have to make a minigun myself.

Anyway if you are interested my controller looks similiar to the fantastic one Mr. Wizard made because i am using the same enclosure.

<a href="http://hammondmfg.com/dwg16.htm" target="_blank">http://hammondmfg.com/dwg16.htm</a> - its the 10 degree sloped box.

I am also using an enclosure from the Hammond for my actual supergun but im still waiting for it to arrive.

Anyway good luck on your project, i look forward to seeing the results.

In english it is called a conecutter, but it is not ideal for cutting thin plate steel it will make a very rough hole, you will be better off using starrat cutters that come in all sizes from 10mm up to about 300mm

HAH HAH HAH! Supergoose,

When I first saw this pic I got the idea to try and make a Supergun with it. Instead of Teh Romz, I would have the insert say TEH GUN. Of course, you would get the credit for the idea since it was taken from your idea of using the VHS case. Not to mention, you came up with the "TEH ROMZ" pic. Unfortunately, I am a poor sap so there would be no monetary compensation for you glee .

Thanks, I am going to get a set of these. I hope I get as good as making these things as you guys are.
