I am building a supergun and it's enclosure just happens to have a mini fan hooked up to it so I figures why not :)

anyway, it has three wires coming off of it, red, black, and white...

red=power
black=ground
white=?????

anyone know what the white wire is for?

also, shoudl I hook the 5v or the 12v up to the fan? it's a mini brush fan or something like that. It's only about 1 1/2 inch in diameter.

On most fans the extra wire is used for RPM monitoring. That way they can tell that the fan is still moving and not jammed or stalled. Typically this wire doesn't need to be attached to anything for the fan to actually work.

I would imagine the fan should have some markings on it about voltage.

Didn't you say you were building this in a Dreamcast shell?

I just took it all the way apart and there was a number on it. I searched the number and found out it was 5v. Thanks for the info on the white wire!! I think I will just leave that one alone!

Everything is coming together very nicely :)

thanks loads! as usual!!
