Do they work like the neo does where one board is the motherboard and the other is the game where you can switch out games and stuff?

Yes, somewhat. But there are different board regions, and some color boards won't work with some games. Go here for some more info about this: http://cps2shock.retrogames.com/techinfo.html

blue and green B-boards can use the same A-board but grey B-boards needs it's own A-board.

A=motherboard
B=gameboard

blue = US
green = japan
grey = asia

oh, and yeah, you just snap the games in and out and the motherboard with kick harness just stay hooked up.

I got my european CPS2 system yetserday. Enormous but cool. I'm getting Progear soon (when Raz is done with it ;-) ). I heard that the fan really isn't nessesary. How can I turn it off without opening the system (warranty and stuff, or should I even bother about that)?

You mean he borrowed the cart from you for dumping purposes? (just curious :p )

Warranty eh? :rolleyes: If there ever was one it must have expired long ago...
Anyway, it's impossible to unplug the fan from its socket without opening the case. There are two holes on the bottom where the wires are visible: you might cut them there...
The best thing would be to open the case though, not least of all because then you can thoroughly clean it (it's usually very dirty and greasy esp. in the fan and heat sink areas). However, to open it you'll have to somehow remove the metal seal in the back of the unit. I did it and can say it was quite a job (if you care about the integrity of the plastic case of course): I had to drill through the seal and such. It's the only way...

Man, that day I cursed all Capcom staff and their families...never had such a hard time opening something, it was driving me mad :mad: With my hands?? you're kidding...you risk breaking the plastic. First I had to drill through the seal, next I took a screw and screwed it in the hole 'til it was halfway in and tight. Then I took my pliers and pulled the screw with all my (girly? annoyed ) strength to finally pull out that bitch... i'd rather pull out my own teeth one by one than going through that nightmare again...

The first who dares to say it's easy... :mad:

Hahaha... yeah, it is a pain, they really didn't want you in there. Still, I can't help but think there must be a trick to it. How do they do it at Capcom when they revive dead boards?

Now that I think of it, lubricating the seal *might* help...
As for the B-boards, I've noticed that many don't come with the seal and I'm sure there has never been one on those (you would notice its former presence). Probably Capcom just stopped using the seal on b-boards at some point in time (they must have had some problems too :p )...

ARGH!! I never EVAR will get this straight. Which is A and which is B?

Nevertheless i found that in a hole close to the bult with a C on it I cas see a red and a black wire. Might these be the fans power cable. Cutting oneof those could easily save me tons of trouble it seem (if they'r the ones that is).

Yeah, just start cutting wires! Pretend it is like Die Hard or something... Should I cut the red one... no... shit... black... or green! DAMN IT! CUT THEM ALL AND RUN!

A is the motherboard (where the fan is)

B is the various gameboards (with blue or green cases) that you plug on the A board.

Yeah, it's that. If you decide to cut it, make sure the wires don't touch each other again (put tape or something in between).

My A-board is black and says "EUROPE" on a blue sticker. Since I use a supergun for playing and the fan is really loud I'd really like to make it stop. I don't remember who said that the fan wansn't that nessesary, but the same person said that it's most likely to be useful if you're gonna keep the game running inside a cabinet for hours straight.

We discussed about this some time ago. The fan is only necessary if you are using it insided a cab for 12 hours in a row everyday. For home use in a supergun, where you shouldn´t play more than 1-2 hours, is not necessary. Personally, I opened my A board and installed a switch, because I had the intention of leaving it on for quite some hours from time to time because of the battery.

By the way, I don´t remember having that much trouble opening the A board, I had to remove a warranty sticker and then I removed that screw without problems, can´t remember how I did it.

same here

I removed my A board from its case and mounted it like any other pcb with the B board also removed from its case (D&D in this instance). It's in a sizeable cab though, so no overheating even without the fan since neither board is no longer in its case.
