NEO GEO Controller Pinout

This diagram shows the connector looking at the end of the joystick cable. The numbering runs backwards to match the numbering of a DB-15 male connector. These connectors should be available at any electronics store, or perhaps a computer store. It's the same as an IBM joystick connector. Note![03/14/02] Pin 8 provides +5v to the controller. This is unused in the original stick, but is mandatory for proper use of the pads and new-style sticks.

1 Common (GND) 10 NC
2 NC 11 Start
3 Select 12 C Button
4 D Button 13 A Button
5 B Button 14 Left
6 Right 15 Up
7 Down
8 +5v
9 D Button

ok im a little confussed, bear with me

what does (nc) mean on pin 2 and pin 10

also why had the D-button got two pins ie:pin 4 and pin 9 help

A db15 controller is also suitable for 6 button joysticks so it has multiple options. NC means not connected if I`m not mistaking (hey I`m dutch :) )
Please check out the thread by Amano Jacu posted as a sticky in the tech forum. All the links and info you might need is there and I know because I finally got my joystick to work buttrock

Anyway, I reccomend you check some of the sites out that are in his post, no more questions remain afterwards...

Thats just how it is on the homw controllers. It shouldnt cause you any problems though when wiring it to another stick. Its just that two wires are necessary for the circuit to be complete, thats all.

No multimeter and no search function...

<a href="http://www.neo-geo.com/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=5;t=005298" target="_blank">http://www.neo-geo.com/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=5;t=005298</a>

Here we discussed about the pins 4&9 issue. Personally, it will work OK if you only wire ONE of the two pins, choose any of the two, I used pin 4 myself.

heres a couple of pics of my stick i made it for use on my AES.
as you can see the PC joystick extention lead that i bought from maplins (TA50E) is just right for the neo its got the deep socket so no cutting was envolved, also you will notice i used a puch button switch in the back of the stick for my select button (so i can pause my game)

all in all it was my first atempt at doing a stick conversion and im really pleased with it.

the reason i done it is i prefer the DC stick to the neo one its got a bit more weight to it and it feels more solid anyway thats my personal opinion. glee

I'm glad you found it. By the way, I was in UK til last Thursday (Newcastle) and it was cold there, now here we have what I call heat. In Newcastle there was as much cold as here in the winter, no kidding!

I don't see why do you want to replace the buttons, I find its color to be fine, and in fact why don't you just paint them?

Well, you could have used any of the remaining buttons to be used as select, or you could have put select on the start button and start in any of the remainiing buttons.

Finally, it is possible to leave the PCB insided the stick with the DC wire, this way the stick also works with the DC at the same time.

Last but not least, your sig is more than 200 kbs and took forever to load, please remove that animated gif. Thanks.

Wait, so you can just attach buttons on an arcade stick to a 15 pin plug and use the PC controller extension from my local electronics store and then attach that to the AES and it works??

it's gotta be harder then that, doesn't it?

Well yes, depending on what arcade stick you have it IS that easier. Check my links thread.

well I enjoy making my own arcade sticks so I was wondering if this was all I had to do for the neo ones..

I made a Dreamcast arcade stick out of an old DC controller and had a fun time making that, besides painting and finishing it.

I need to finish the projects I am working on before I jump into another one, but maybe later on I can make myself some really nice neo style arcade sticks...

THANKS!! buttrock

The Neo Geo, due to its arcade origin, is the only system that accepts direct binary controller inputs (that means one wire for each button), while all other systems use a chip that compresses the data in less wires. That's why it is much easier to construct or adapt and existing controller to work in the neo (or a supergun), than to make one for another system, that usually requires sacrificing a controller for that system.

Yep, 38 kb is OK, 100 kb is considered the maximum, thanks for your understanding.
