This is a 4 Slot Board I won from MD Games Auction a while back. It was a defective board, the auction described as only being able to pull up the Grid Screen and that is all it will do.

I can get the Hardware Test Screen up by pushing the Player 1 button and all tests seem to work fine.

Everything looks brand new with this 4 Slot PCB, I cleaned out the Slots and the Jamma Fingerboard.

Does anyone have any ideas why this board is stuck in the grid screen? <img src="graemlins/help.gif" border="0" alt="[Help]" /> <img src="graemlins/help.gif" border="0" alt="[Help]" />

I have put games in all 4 slots, games in each slot by itself, and I just get the same grid screen each time.

Any help will be great!

Thanks,
Robert

Reads like there is a conflict between your service or test pinout and your video ground..those pinouts may be connecting somewhere on the pcb throwing you right into TEST MODE on power up.
I just know you have dipswitch 1 in the off position..could'nt be that easy..

BB,

Sent you a PM. About the grid screen.... it comes up the same when the dip switch 1 is ON or OFF.
.........................................................

I just tried my Working 4 slot and it comes into the hardware test screen (when I turn OFF Dip 1).

With options like Setting up the Hard Dip, Setting up the Soft Dip...etc...

....................................................................

Now on this 4 slot in the pic.... When there is a game in any of the slots it does not give me the same test options like my working 4 slot.

This non working 4 slot board does not give me those options when there is a game inserted.... Like the hard dip/soft dip settings, book keeping, setting up the code number...etc.....

I am guessing that is is not reading any information from the MVS game????

Mabey the dipswitch is broken??? I just checked all of the Dips 1-8 and they have tested good from the test screen.

The MVS4 is not recognizing any of the cartridges. With no cartridge inserted, you will get the grid screen anfd hardware test without being allowed into setting the RAM exemptives.

I would look at the slots themselves for any corrosion oand then cracked traces or the buffers from one board to the other.
