Is it possible to convert a Composite Video cable into a super video cable by cutting the head off the yellow wire on composite, and soldering an S video head plug into it? This is with knowledge that the system you're using has S-video output.

The reason I ask this is so I can play My PS2 with S-Video - and yes I KNOW I can buy one for 10 bucks, but I want to make my own.

You are not able to hack off the end of a composite cable and just wire in an s-video end. To make an s-video cable for the PS2 first get the pin out of the Playstation, you can get this from www.gamesx.com , then get a 4 pin mini din at any local electronics store, like radio shack, and while your there get 2 rca plugs, some wire, solder, and solder iron if you don't have one. You will also need, the heart of your cable, an AV adaptor. I would buy a cheap one on this because all you need is the end that plugs into the Playstation, it should come fully loaded with all of the pins. Cut off the wire at the base of the box with the composite out and r and l audio there you will see 12 individual wires. What you need to do now is open up the end that plugs in to the Playstation and see what color wire goes where. For S-video you need luminance, chrominance, and gound for luminance and chrominance. Find what color wire goes to those pins and run those wires to your s-video male connector and then run the r and l audio wires to your RCA plugs, the cable of the AV adaptor is short this is where the wire comes in just solder it to the wires that comes off of the AV adaptor. Snap back together the end that goes in the Playstaion and wrape up any wires that are exposed and your done. All you have to do now is try it. You can find the pin out to S-Video on the web.

Err, no. Most composite PSX leads come with only the pins needed for composite, i.e. you won't have all the pins on the PSX side required for S-vid. Even if it has all pins, the lead only has a minimum amount of wires, and is moulded. This means you won't have the right pins wired up!

My advice - BUY ONE!

And if you're that much of a cheapskate...

A: EBAY

B: What the hell r u doing in a Neo Geo forum if you can't even spend $10 on decent leads? Geez, next you'll complain that your controllers cost you $15!
