hey there.....
I got my beloved panasonic Q, and have been using a 70 watt stepdown which seems fine and a wavebird controller. yesterday i switched it on and the wavebird no longer worked, neither did the blue lights on the controller ports. It works fine with jap games and DVDs, but not the wavebird and the blue lights dont work. Is this a common problem? what has gone wrong? because apparently it only uses 30 watt so the stepdown should be fine.. and was sold as a GC stepdown, never heated ,etc. Also does anyone know if the blue lights come on around the ports when playing DVDs because mine never did... PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the blue lights only light up when playing gamecube games - not DVDs.

Other than that, I don't know what happened to your GQ. :(

nope the panasonic Q apparently only uses 30 watt
check: http://www.gamecubeq.com/

But anyway it worked for 2 weeks, then this happened. Ah ok thanks for varifying that with the DVD the lights dont go on. But at the moment, only standard controllers work and the blue lights dont work with the games :-(

Nope the Q must be 50 - 100w. I just checked my stepdown transformer.

I think it must be your stepdown transformer - 'not enough power Captain...' :(

I've tried new batteries in the wavebird, it used to work.. now it only works on my US system. Something must have happened to the Q, by using a 70 watt stepdown!!! ahhhhhh ekkkkk

hmmn.

US system = 110
Jp system = 100

Using a Japanese piece of electronics in the US without a converter will work, but it also subjects the unit to a lot of over heating.

I can only imagine it's worse if you live in Europe and you don't have a good stepdown.

We run at 240v AC / NTSC JP/U at 100 - 110 V AC.

Try and plug a piece of NTSC equipment in to our mains without a stepdown - sit down and watch your console make lots of amusing and expensive popping sounds.

Yes, stepdown transformers can get quite warm (I wouldn't say hot). And yes, to protect your equipment it's recommended you buy a good quality one. There are some floating around from Hong Kong and they're shite.

OK, well first I think you're getting confused - most stepdowns are rated in VA, so double check that.

As i've said before, bring it down the shop and i'll take a look. Mind you, you never replied to any of my previous posts

I'll take a look and see what my stepdown can do. It isn't one of those crappy little things that looks like a SNES PSU though!

OK my email is eggplant_casserole @ hotmail.com if you need to contact me. Remove anti-spam spaces!

All gamecubes including Q's here are sold with 100 Watt power Supplys they don't reccomend you use less Stepdowns for PSX/Saturn/DC/ETC use 80 watt.
