I've neglected the DS for too long.

What games should I track down before the local Gamestop throws their box away?

that depends on what type of games you like, you're out of luck if you like fighting games.
what I recomend is any of the Castlevania games, Trauma center 2 & Advance Wars DOR

Tons of little RPG gems

I'd def recommend the Advance Wars and Fire Emblem games. Also, some good Castlevania games... the Phoenix Wright series too.

DS got a lot of good games.

I too just recently got another DS. I think i've had like 8, which is a good sign I should just keep this one. Anyways, normally i'm not for TeH RomZ, but when it comes to the DS you have to get a flash cart. They're cheap and you run zero risk of messing up the DS.

It's especially good for older games that are harder to find.

here my list thats on my DS atm:

Final Fantasy: Warlock at firemoutain, or some crap . it reminds me of oblivion. not recommended
Animal Crossing - yes recommended
Wario Ware Touch - rec
Mortal Kombat DS - This is one I always play. it's an incredibly good port for the DS
Pokemon Soul Silver (giggles) - I've liked it ever since the red version. one of the only games I play all the way through.
Zelda: Phantom Hourglass - it's alright, Link looks like an A-hole though.
Mario Party - fun to play for a quick game fix
Mario Kart - This is an absolute must
Final Fantasy: CC - this one is fun too

I have a Band Hero demo cart which is semi-fun. not worth buying the accessories needed to play it though.

I'll second the Mortal Kombat 3 DS port, really solid and probably the best beat-em-up on a portable.

For original platforming fun don't miss Super Princess Peach. Overlooked as easy and cutesy, but solid classic platforming.

The usual stuff can be had cheap in loose cart format, Castlevanias, Contra IV, Advance Wars games, etc.

The World Ends With You. A must-have for every DS owner.

I didn't care for it either. It was a rare innovative title from Square (and seriously, how often do you see that nowadays?), but it just didn't jive with me. It's too esoteric to be called a 'must have', if you ask me. But hey, what the hell do I know.

I have another suggestion, which is ironically esoteric itself (:D): Shiren the Wanderer. It's a rogue-like RPG, and one of the best I've ever played. If you like the genre, go for it. If you're curious about it, I still say go for it — it's not an easy game, but it sure is fun. I really like it a lot. Might be a bit tricky to track down though — the print run couldn't have been that high.
