Case modding a Neo

This should be an exciting project, and I'll get plenty of pics of the finished product.

My home system is going to undergo some planned changed...

First, I intend to install 3 see-through windows. Not sure of color as of yet. Intending to window the left and right side, and the top case towards the bottom. I'd like to add a ying-yang or some kind of design to the top window.

I'm also going to let there be light in this beast, but I haven't fully figured that problem out yet. LEDs would seem to make the most sense- cold cathodes won't fit.

Any suggestions?

So who wants to provide suggestions? Anything from how to power the LEDs, to where to purchase the windows, to color suggestions...

I don't have any suggestions, but I have seen his done to the XBox..
There was some pics and how it was done to them in a past issue of the Official Xbox magazine.

I like to see the final project after you do it.

You may be the only person who has done this to a Neo Geo and it will be unique.

Interesting idea , but Im not sure how exciting this would be ?

Its not like anything moves in it or anything.

and for the record I think that pc windows are pretty lame.

But hey its different enough to be kind of cool.

I have seen some very small cold cathode rays , infact the atari lynx used them for its backlighting source.

take a look around some of the case modding sites or look throught the forums at www.hardocp.com , or ask anyone there if they know where to find some that are say 4 inches or so, I know they exist since I have seen them but I couldnt tell you where to get them.

good luck 0on your project

WHY? Because the case arrived damaged anyway. The top case has about a 1" x 2" hole in it.

I was pissed and all, but I wound up inspired to just do a case mod, accept small compensation, and move on.

*bump* again.

Any advice? Even an idea of what tool to use to cut the case? I'm a NEWBIE at this. ;)

well, first i'll say its sacrilege. don't see why people have to go this far when its not necessary. what do you hope to see inside???

anyway, if you HAVE to do this, use a dremel. practice on some waste plastic first - it tends to hand a "grain" and just rips in the wrong direction. as for power, don't use your system's - unless you're using a psu that supplies more than the unit draws. LEDs are gonna look naff, but oh well. so would ccts.

i work in the pc industry, i've had customers insist on a spangly pc case with windows etc. sure i can do it and make it look "good" (yeah right) but its a waste of money!

good luck anyhoo

some sort of wood burner or soldering gun will cut through it like butter.

I am proud to present the ugliest mod ever attempted on a Neo. I put a VGA converter, or "VGA box" on the upper right corner of my seldom used Japanese system. the back of the case was slightly cracked anyway, so I thought what the hell.

lol

it requires its own AC adapter, and I have yet to directly wire it to the inside. I know I am never, ever attempting some stunt like this again.

Dremel - That should work fine.

Next issue - Windows - What should I use? Glass sounds good, but I don't have a clue how it cuts.

After that? Lights... Umm... Well I can use a spare PC PSU and hide it behind my games or something. I really don't think I can make cold cathodes fit, but if you have a suggestion as to where to get one small enough, I could give it a shot.

it'll look stupid, I've seen the photo of the damage, why not just replace the small hole with a window or even the original part, maybe add a vga box in there as its cut out already :) , dont turn it into a christmas tree.
