Konami / Gradius have some recognition in the states... I figure that's why Konami feels they can get $50 for this.
I'm holding reservation until it's out and see what people say about it. I like Gradius gameplay, but this looks subpar. Unless they really improve on the original, I'll likely pass.

But really, how different could it be? I'm not expecting anything beyond a somewhat polished turd here.
I'll get a copy just for the sake of supporting a title I wouldn't expect to see getting a stateside release.
It'll make a nice birthday/Christmas gift, if I can pull myself away from the 2010 Predaking re-issue long enough to play.

Predaking is being re-released?! Die cast parts or all plastic? Also is the re-release here in the US or is it JP only.

Aside from a new metalic look/paint job, don't know much other than it's coming later this year. Already got the online exclusive Piranacon re-issue and even tracked down auctions for Superion, Menasor, Bruticus and Abominus giftsets.
I've been on a G1 Combiner team kick lately.

I had a good chuckle over this comment because it's dead on.
Had no idea the release was this close. In light of Deathsmiles, this doesn't seem worthwhile. Konami, call Treasure up, ask them to develop Gradius VI. Thanks.

Otomedius is a good game. The main reasons people bash it are due to the art style and 3D graphics. The gameplay is an acquired taste, but it's not objectively bad. In many ways, it is superior to the other horizontal shooters Konami has developed.
This game must be terrible.. I see it in the second hand shops over here and its never more than 1000 yen, and they NEVER move any copies. I played it at the arcade once and the only thing that impressed me was the super-duper high-res monitor it was running on.

It's the second-best selling 360 shmup in Japan (there's a reason they're making a sequel). The only one that's sold better so far is Deathsmiles 1.

lol owned. So does it play mostly like a Gradius / Parodius game? I've come to the conclusion I don't like Gradius, other than V. I'll throw in a Parodius game once in a while just for the art style.
I think Otomedius Excellent may be delayed - Play-Asia sent out an email announcing pre-orders and the release date was something like "fall 2010."
