The english demo was released yesterday on PSN. It's a mashup of PSU and PSZ. Online multiplayer for the trial is free and will continue to be so when the game is released on September 14th. Character classes are no longer rigid, any class can use any weapon.

So come, join the rest of us in the defense of the Gurhal system against the SeeD.

So far, PSP2 is as fun as Kirk told me. I took my RAcast to the trial level cap (fifteen), although I've only leveled its job level to three (out of five). Then I started a HUbeast, which is only level four right now. It's also nice to see some of the unique things make it over to PSP2 from PSU and PSZ, and how some things have been improved.

+My Room (a carryover from PSU, fill it with unique mission trophies and decor)
+Weapon Grinding (no more grinders, no more weapon breaks, all it takes is meseta)
+Line Shield (now you're able to change it on the fly via a palette like weapons)
+Targeting (auto-tracking improved, L-shoulder button for reorientation; feels good)
+Customization (now it's more about the drops than what class you play)
+Online Multiplayer (PSP1 had no infrastructure, PSP2 has infrastructure and it's free)
+Status Effects (no longer attached to a particular element, totally random)

-Teching is tough (like PSU, techers are gimped again; toughest class to play as)
-No player economy (no big loss, hard part now is finding people to trade with)

How well does this game run online? I only version I've played was on the original Xbox. I was too laggy for it to be any fun. The voice chat also lagged. Is it easy to run a party and communicate well?

The online trial ran as well as PSU did. Even though network errors still occur it hasn't happened to me yet. We'll see how online goes day one of the official launch today. PSN download speed will probably be at a crawl again.

I'm ready to raise arms against the SeeD tonight!

Just started universe 9-1 last night. I've invested fifty hours thus far so I believe I'm near the end of story mode. Level 80 Cast, Hu 10/Ra 10/Fo 2/Va 5. I should be done with story mode and hunting online full-time by the middle of the week.

so what's the point of classes if everyone can use all the weapons.?

and

I am assuming offline characters can be used online?

Even though all the weapons in PSP2 are open to all of the classes, the class you play still determines what your primary weapon set will be, along with your role in a party. Hunters in front because they have the best dps, rangers at distance because they excel at building combo chains and spreading SEs, while forces buff the party and pick their spots because they're glass cannons. Vanguards are of the jack-of-all class, good at everything, great at nothing (sans EX traps, they're overpowered).

Yes, your offline character can be used online.

Finished the story mode last night. Character level eighty, clocking in at just over sixty hours. Although I probably could've finished far sooner if I had just done the story missions. But doing close to forty side quests made the story mode's endgame very easy.

I finished with the "good" ending and was given Whitill Cell (aka Whitill Wings) for a reward. There are also "normal" and "awesome" endings, although I don't know how to reach them at this moment. Finishing the story mode unlocks "hard story mode". There's no doubt that completing hard story mode unlocks yet more items at the stores and more missions.

Hey bud. I bought this friday night. I loved PSO and am a hardcore fan. I played the original psp, but there wasn't enough rares and the difficulty was nonexistent. I love the changes in this one and we should do some games soon when I set up my ID on the PSP.

Sounds good, anytime man.

Send me a friend request on PSN whenever you'd like to get the ball rolling.

Can people with the JPN version of the game play with the other releases? I may have to turn this game back on and get leveling. I played through the story mode and about 10 or 20 hours or so online.

PSP2 Infinity is coming out soon here. I may have to get it.

All the Phantasy Star Online 2 news has me pretty excited. I mostly only play games on the PC these days. I promised myself I wouldn't play anymore monthly fee games though.

As far as I know only the US and EU servers are linked, I'm not sure about the JP servers.

With Diablo III right around the corner and PSO2 possibly being PC-only I may be looking into PC-gaming for the first time in my life.

You must get a PC. Diablo 3 is gonna be awesome and we have Starcraft 2 right now!

I think you'd dig Torchlight as well.

Phantasy Portable 2 Infinity just came out today. My thumb was hovering over the buy option. PSP2 was one of my most played PSP games. Hmmm...

Looks like some new story chapters, some new areas, monsters and a new class. I may get this very soon.

I have no self control. I bought it even though I have a ton of games to finish.

So far the story mode is a continuation and there appears to be a lot more levels etc.

Engine is the same, not too different, but it's MORE PHANTASY STAR!!!

There's been no news of it so far. I hope it gets released.

They've added a lot of stuff and the new story, although only 5 chapters this time, is very nice.

The new female character is very cool.

The game has a tagging mode like Dragon Quest IX where you put your PSP into sleep mode and it exchanges with other people. I put it in this mode in Akihabara station and didn't get anyone. When I did it with DQIX last year it would fill up in a second.

They have special downloads in the arcades - so I swung by the sega arcade, popped it into Friend Search Mode and got a mission and some character information from the arcade. It's an infinity mission - they are kind of thrown together short missions that give you a lot of XP and guarantee rares. I was running some Infinity missions in some Japanese rooms a few nights ago - it's really great.

Magician - I can't believe you put 200 hours on this. I only have 65 or so and I feel like I've seen so much of the content. Maybe I just have to get a bit more hardcore. I've been playing it on the train now, so I should get some more hours and grinding on.

I wonder what Phantasy Star Online 2 is going to look like...

Yeah, I was on PSP2 pretty hard for the first couple months, but I haven't been back to it since I hit character level 154 (around 250 hours). Once I discovered the powerful combination of vanguard traps, twin handgun combo building, and finishing with twin saber's blade destruction pa...nothing much was difficult at that point. By then I was just upgrading my gear to improve mission completion times.

The content in PSP2 is awesome, it feels like an MMO with a couple expansions built in. I'm hoping Infinitey makes its way over to NA and EU, that's something that would pull me back into PSP2 immediately. As it stands, I probably won't be back on PSP2 until I finish Two Worlds II and get a complete set of tier 1 gear on my DCUO character.

As for PSO2, I hope Sega releases copious details and footage soon.

And I pray it's more akin to PSP2 than PSU. Oh please...let it be...
