I owned this Genesis shooter as a kid and always liked it for its soundtrack and bizarre enemy design. After reading up about the game a little I discovered the sprites were designed by the same guy who worked on Cho Aniki. Kind of cool, I thought.

Anymore fans of this game? I got a rom of it the other day since I don't own a Genesis anymore and I think it still holds up pretty well.

Yes, Gynoug is great. NCS/Masaya quality all the way. The bullet patterns get pretty manic for an early 90's hori console shooter.

Very awesome game. I think its kind of underrated. just like L-DIS on PCE. Also of the Masayan bloodlines!

I love Gynoug, still have my copy that I bought a few days after release. It can get nasty in later levels up to the point of being frustrating but the excellent gameplay makes up for it. The weapon/magic upgrade system isn't all that hot, though.

Wouldn't call it underrated, it's just lesser known due to its age.

Definitely one of the better MD horis.

this game along with crying(bio hazard battle) are two of my fav Gen/MD shmups. Far off the beaten path design wise, yet still fun. Everyone is pretty up on the fact that Toaplan split into Gazelle/Cave/et al. . . I would love to know if many of the NCS folks are still in the business, and/or where did they end up post 16bit era. Loved that design house. Totally rad at a myriad of genres.

I've always been curious myself. I know that The Assault Suits Valken team joined square to develop Front Mission : Gun Hazard. But that was back in 96. There isn't a lot of information about the company online.
