Are superguns really that easy to use?

I've been browsing the net for over a week now learning about the various superguns that are available, but I still need some info. Is it true that all Jamma games (excluding Jamma+) are just plug and play? So for example, all I would have to do to get a "Final Fight" PCB to work would be to plug the board into the harness on the supergun? Also, where can I buy those connectors that allow the rest of the buttons to function on Jamma+ games? Sorry for the newbish questions, but I really need some advice.

For the most part a JAMMA game would be plug n play, but you need to make sure if the games you have need +5V, +12V, and -5V some games only need +5V and +12V and if they do need -5V make sure that the -5V is wired up. For any of your arcade part needs get them from Bob Roberts <a href="http://www.therealbobroberts.com" target="_blank">www.therealbobroberts.com</a> Remember that not all JAMMA+ games use the same connector so make sure what kind of connectors you need to make your JAMMA+ plug for your games.

Yeah with superguns like the Sigma and the SuperNovas you will need an MVS PCB to plug into the Supergun.

You will also need some MVS games once you get your Supergun and PCB.

About the wiring you can ask Briggs, he is a member here and he also has a very informative website <a href="http://www.hardMVS.com" target="_blank">www.hardMVS.com</a>

He makes custom wiring for the MVS/Jamma harness:

Take your time getting into this stuff and ask a lot of questions.....people here can keep you well informed.

See ya around,

Thanks for the info you guys. CheapNeoGeo, could you please explain a little more about the whole volts issue? I understand that some PCB's require a different amount of power to function, but is there anywhere I could go to see which PCB's require what amount of voltage to work? Also, I'm only getting a supergun for Jamma and Jamma+ games as I already have an AES and a Phantom-1 is on the way. Thanks guys!

The -5v issue is a minor one - some jamma games don't need the -5v connected to work, others do, but any commercially produced supergun will have the -5v connected so it's not an issue. Connecting the -5v with a game that doesn't require it doesn't have any reprocussions.

As for Jamma+, different games use different connectors when more than the standard 3 buttons are needed. These are particular to each individual game/system so you need to do a little bit of research before you jump in and buy a Jamma+ board. Common systems that use an extra button connector are Capcom's CPS1 and CPS2, although not all CPS1 and CPS2 games use more than the standard 3 buttons. Other games that use an extra connector include Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct (afaik)... a decent commerically made supergun will offer extra connectors for these common systems and titles that simply connect from the supergun to the relevant place on the board.

As for normal Jamma games like Final Fight (great game, I've got it myself ;) ), yup, you just plug the harness comming out of the supergun onto the board and away you go.

That's just what I needed to hear Spectre. So now my only question is; which is the best supergun to get? I've heard that the Super Nova is pretty decent and I also read that there's someone on the message boards here that can build one for me. What do you guys recommend?
