Is the CDZ much better than the CD?

Hey:

I owned a Neo CD prior to my AES, and got rid of it because the load times were awful and MOTW wasn't on it. I am getting rid of my AES because the cart prices are awful and I don't get what I pay for.

So, my new idea to continue Neo gaming is to buy a CDZ. I have read that it loads games twice as fast as the CD, is that true? As in if a game on CD takes 1 minute to load, it will take 30 seconds on CDZ? Does it make KOF at least bearable to play?

Just go MVS. Or buy a Phantom.

CD is a pain!

First of all, it's just a rumor that the CDZ has a double speed drive, it's equipped with more/faster cache RAM to store temp. game data, that's all there is.

The actual speed of the CDZ is roughly 1.5x faster than std CD, but this rate differs from game to game. While games like RBFFS or SS4 seem to load faster, I hardly noticed any differences with KoF or LB.

Also, there are occasional loading problems with newer games (>=1997).

If loading speed was a problem for you with your CD, get a 2 slot MVS and a super nova.

Well I agree on the MVS issue. If you have a choice between MVS or CD, I would pick MVS. If you have the cash for both, do it. I used to hate NeoCD.... I wouldnt play my KOF's or other large fighting games on it, but there are a lot of games that play very nice on CD. The arranged tracks are a delight as well...

Go with the MVS. While you won't be getting the arranged tracks that some CD titles offer, you won't need to wait for loading time. MVS cart prices are NOT awful. Since you've got the NGHC unit already- get a Phantom.

Some CD games can take forever to load even on a CDZ. You'll fall asleep waiting for LB2 to load the next match. Some frames of animation are cut as well. <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0"> Pulstar is 18 seconds to load another stage- and that's why I prefer it on cart.

As NeoTurfMasta said, some smaller games (League Bowling, NAM-1975, Magician Lord for example) will play nice on CD.

If you can, buy a MVS. It's the only solution to play with recent games without being rich/
