I really like Fatal Fury 3. Why? When I was about 13/14 years old, my brother and I would always go to the arcade at Wright Patterson AFB (which is now being occupied by Boyd's Bears...grrrrrrr) and watch Fatal Fury 3 in a dedicated one-slot cabinet (not a neo cabinet, mind you) over and over again in attract mode. We rarely had money, so I've become VERY familiar with the opening video:

"DARK DESTINY ONCE AGAIN OUTSTRETCHES ITS ICY GRIP!!!"

"THE LONE WOLVES ARE BACK!!"

Followed by a really kick ass guitar riff and Geese Howard (my all time favorite SNK character) putting his feet up on his desk LOUDLY. Then...

"FATAL FURY 3!!!! ROAD TO THE FINAL VICTORY!!!"

When I did have money, I couldn't get past Hon Fu. Got alot of fond memories about arcades. Waiting in line to play Final Fight...beating Desert Assault on my last quarter. Memories...sigh...too bad MOST arcades suck now.

Anyway, Fatal Fury 3 is my favorite.

I like the newer of the FF series.... I just can't get into the older slower playing style of FF-FFspecial. FF3 is a nice one in my opinion. RBS is damn nice though! It is so smooth and easier to get into the controls. No more having to hit 2 buttons to get to the foreground. God that is what I hate a bout the early FF series!

Fatal Fury Special is the ultimate SNK game for me, and perhaps any other game out there. FFS isn't really slow, the gameplay is actually quite fast. I liked how your super moves actually DID SOMETHING back then too, instead of taking off 1/10th of your life like they do today. You were actually afraid of them back in the day. FFS still stands above all others in my opinion.

oh- fatal fury- my 2nd fav. fighting game series of all time (after street fighter).
i'm assuming garou is not included when you say "fatal fury"- so i gotta say the original real bout.
to this day, i feel it is one of snk's most fine-tuned and innovative fighters- 3 levels of planes, ring outs (GREAT idea), and who can tell me they don't love geeses completely free roaming stage (i.e., no cornertraps or cheapshit).
beautiful graphics, and an amazing soundtrack (at least on the saturn)
RBFF is my 2nd fav. SNK game of all time.

I love that intro the best
I have recorded it
However my fav fatal fury game has to be fatal fury 2,why? well first off its the game that made me get a neo geo,its the game I have played more than any other game,I even managed to complete with every single character eventually after months without using continues albeit the easy level to see all proper endings which is still a great acheivment,
Jubei was the one that took me the longest to do it with,I do like fatal fury special as well but my fav move in no2 is Andy's elbow charge which in special is a lot more harder to do and as a result makes it harder to win with him, while in no2 its a piece of piss

Yeah, agreed on both.

FFS is supa cool, while RBFFS, specially the CD version, features both pure gaming bliss and IMO one of the fkn best OSTs ever made for a Neo game.

Hmm... it's a toss up between Fatal Fury 2 and Real Bout 2.

FF2 was THE reason I got a Neo home cart back in the day. The write-ups and previews I saw in the various gaming magazines only served to give me that final impetus to pick up the Neo (I had been considering it for a while before that). I played the hell out of that one over the course of the summer, and to this day it's still one of my all time favorite Neo games!

Real Bout 2 however, is probably the best playing of the Fatal Furies (including Garou, IMO). The graphics, animation and control all come together perfectly here, and for me it's the pinnacle of 2-D fighting goodness!! Not only is it my favorite Fatal Fury game, but it's easily my favorite game on the Neo, period (and probably my favorite out off all games now that I think about it, Neo or non-Neo included).

Probably my favorite Fatal Fury is FFRB2 the only thing I don't like much is the lack of a storyline.

I'm leaning toward Real Bout Special & RB2.

RBS's and RB2's use of the D button for line-shifting does help (even if it costs you one of the strong attack buttons).

FF3 is underrated IMO- some reviewers have really shit on it. This is where the FF series has really started to take off in a new direction. The new Geese music here rocks as well. Even if SNK did goof in some ways with FF3 (i.e. taking away Joe's Bakuretsuken, and emphasizing the line-sway a bit too much- which can cause some matches to go "Cat & Mouse"), they learned from it.

edit: RB2 does have line sway still. My bad. Haven't played it for way too long and had it confused with Garou's control setup.
