Minnesota Meltdown III?

I've talked a little with Stefan about bringin' back the beat for Meltdown 2010. This is going to be that brainstorming thread (for the time being) about what we can do.

Date?
If we were to continue in the tradition of last year, we could have the event on Saturday, August 14. I, personally, would be unavailable to do the 21st or 28th of August. We could also try for September 4th on Labor Day weekend, but I'm not sure how everyone's schedules (including the hosting place's) will work out.

Place?
We would most likely be welcome back to the Ramada where we worked last summer. They know us and like us, so it might work out really well. Another option is the Holiday Inn (Richfield) where Raging Storm was held. Whereas our gatherings at Ryu1972's rec room are nice, they would not be fitting for a larger crew, upwards of 75-100 people like last year. Any other ideas?

Event?
In my opinion, we've had our Raging Storm to keep us for a while. To be very tournament-heavy could run into troubles like last year when things really piled up and it was hard to get everything done. We can have a few tournaments, and concentrate on having the official Minnesota Video Game Gathering where people will come to play and have fun. A little of everything in mediation. That's what I say. What do you guys think?

Price?
We could probably get away with only charging 5 bucks, maybe $10 if necessary. With the right advertising, we could get enough people to cover the cost and pay back people who bring goods like food/booze. I don't know if we really need extras like the (super awesome badass) lanyard nametags we had in '09. But you guys can also weigh in on that.

Advertising?
Gene from Games-n-Go really wants us to let him know as soon as we're ready about the Meltdown because he loves us. I may give him a call sometime to let him know we're working on stuff... I don't necessarily want this to be "The Games-n-Go Minnesota Meltdown" but having their sponsorship could be really helpful in bringing down the price of admission.

Let's talk! :vik:

Thanks for getting the ball rolling on this.

Unfortunately, I am not into the fighting games as much and definitely not on a competitive level. I will likely be skipping this event as I am more into the laid back gatherings than the tourneys.

Well that was exactly what I was talking about. I'm not much into the competitive stuff either. I'm more into the Bobak-getting-drunk-and-playing-pepsi-man sort of gathering, but just with more people. But that's up to everybody to decide how the event will roll.

Earlier this week, Gene and I discussed this. I was meaning to message you, ookitarepanda, about this as well. Games N Go is planning to hold a Games N Go Championship on Saturday, August 14th, which would include fighting games as well as Smash and 3rd Person Shooters as well. We've looked into the Ramada, but haven't finalized the venue yet.

I was thinking that with Games N Go wanting to be a big part of this and also with Webster and the Raging Storm crew planning to come back in November, I'm not sure if it makes much sense to try to squeeze yet another large event into late summer or fall. I was planning to essentially combine MN Meltdown with the Games N Go event, especially since Gene is pretty flexible and listens to us gamers quite well.

I'm all into 86ing another tournament-centered event --the crowd is just not the same.

I am all into doing another casual event.

I wouldn't mind a semi-casual event with some tourneys going on.

I'm not into fighting games as much as I used to be either, much less competitively.

I would certainly be interested in attending another MN Meltdown event. I attended the last two and had a great time.

I don't get up to many of the casual events as I'm located in Rochester, and there aren't many of us down here, so yes, speaking as someone who doesn't get to a lot of the casual events, another tournament-centric event would be awesome.

If Games n' Go is usually a big part of this and provides donations and sponsorship, perhaps postponing it to a bit later would make more sense? Does anyone have any details on the G 'n G tournament event? Will there be a BB: Continuum Shift tourney by any chance? :D

There's more info in the first post of the MN thread on Shoryuken.com. And yes, there will be a BlazBlue Continuum Shift tourney.

Also, since you're down to the south, there'll be a tournament in La Crosse next Saturday.

Thanks for the info, Shogun! Huge help. I'll definitely be there on the 14th.

To those in the area that want to practice BB:CS, my PSN is: Akakaze

Already have the JP version, so if anyone else does, let's fight it out online.

I'm not great, but really want to get better.

Does this negate the neo gathering I'm trying to have? That's the only thing I'm concerned about.

I think what was previously known as MN Meltdown has been transformed into the Games n Go Championships. As far as the casual get-together, as far as I'm concerned, we're still on at your place sometime this summer/fall if you want.

If this is the plan, I'm down. I have plenty of space for peeps. Multi TVs for several tournaments if we wanna hold them, though we'll need a working PS2, mine is dying. Lasted almost 10 years, :[

For reference, I'm in a house, we have two floors, upstairs basement, multi TVs, a neo geo console, a cab with an MVS, and more. We name the tournaments, chances are I have the console. Help would be appreciated, but this is entirely possible, and cheaper.

If you want to actually host a gathering, start a NEW THREAD of your own, suggest a couple dates, and the MN crew will respond.

I know personally if you were to have something happen, I would show up with Alex, poodude, maybe Kiel if he's not working, probably Bobak, and definitely Shawn. This crew in particular is less about holding tournaments, and more about playing games, arcade and otherwise. If you're interested in doing something like that, I'm sure it would be great. In the meantime, Bobak is currently in Scandinavia or something, and August-September can be a busy time for some folks.

Should be cool.

Of course, if there are issues keeping you from hosting, that's not a problem. We would likely be able to use Ryu1972's common room again for a Fall Neo Gathering.

Shouldn't be a problem in the fall, finishing up the basement, I want all the space free(right now it isn't because of all the stuff going on in the house). I'll make a thread when it's done, and ready to go.
