I've talked a little with Stefan about bringin' back the beat for Meltdown 2010. This is going to be that brainstorming thread (for the time being) about what we can do.
Date?
If we were to continue in the tradition of last year, we could have the event on Saturday, August 14. I, personally, would be unavailable to do the 21st or 28th of August. We could also try for September 4th on Labor Day weekend, but I'm not sure how everyone's schedules (including the hosting place's) will work out.
Place?
We would most likely be welcome back to the Ramada where we worked last summer. They know us and like us, so it might work out really well. Another option is the Holiday Inn (Richfield) where Raging Storm was held. Whereas our gatherings at Ryu1972's rec room are nice, they would not be fitting for a larger crew, upwards of 75-100 people like last year. Any other ideas?
Event?
In my opinion, we've had our Raging Storm to keep us for a while. To be very tournament-heavy could run into troubles like last year when things really piled up and it was hard to get everything done. We can have a few tournaments, and concentrate on having the official Minnesota Video Game Gathering where people will come to play and have fun. A little of everything in mediation. That's what I say. What do you guys think?
Price?
We could probably get away with only charging 5 bucks, maybe $10 if necessary. With the right advertising, we could get enough people to cover the cost and pay back people who bring goods like food/booze. I don't know if we really need extras like the (super awesome badass) lanyard nametags we had in '09. But you guys can also weigh in on that.
Advertising?
Gene from Games-n-Go really wants us to let him know as soon as we're ready about the Meltdown because he loves us. I may give him a call sometime to let him know we're working on stuff... I don't necessarily want this to be "The Games-n-Go Minnesota Meltdown" but having their sponsorship could be really helpful in bringing down the price of admission.
Let's talk!
